A Smiling Face A Heart Full Of Song Room 26 is one of the few places in school where a student will never get reprimanded for raising the sound level of the room above a low murmur. Of course, the sounds that echo from the Monroeville High School vocal music de¬ partment can hardly be considered noise. They indicate the presence of the high school choir, directed by the exuberant Mr. James Mergenthal. The do re mi ' s are a welcome relaxation after a day of examinations and themes, but there is also hard practices for many school events at which these singers perform. 27 Their group had 25% fewer cavities!

Band: Beethoven To Ringo If things look and sound differently around the band room, it is probably because they are. Mr. Huffman has worked on building a new attitude, resulting in an alive, successful and growing band. The band was very active this year performing at basketball games, M. H. S. concerts, and combined con¬ certs with Hoagland High School ' s band. Joined with Hoagland High School ' s band, the Monroeville High School band participated in their first concert contest. Cheer up, Mary, it ' s Friday. 26

Membership in high school choir is open to all students in grades 9-12. The only requirements are that, first and foremost, a student must possess the sincere desire to sing, and he must attend all re¬ hearsals and concerts. One of the highest aims of this choir, in addition to developing musicianship, is to develop and achieve group harmony . Through the choral literature that is sung and through each choir member ' s involvement with this literature, group harmony is sought. Choir Mixes Harmony And Hard Work Girls ' Ensemble 28 B.
