PROPERTY OF We of the senior class of 194.9- Ā 0 respectfully dedicate this yearbook to James Weaver, co-sponsor of our class, whose guid¬ ance, both in the class¬ room and in our extra-cur- icular activities, has been of inestimable value. ONOBS Among the lists of students who have won special honors, Doris Webster ranks very high. During her junior year, Doris placed third in a state-wide English contest held at Indiana University, in which over five hundred top ranking students from high schools all over Indiana participated. Also, when she was a junior, Doris was chosen by her class¬ mates and the faculty members to be a delegate to Girlās State, sponsored by the Legion Auxiliary, held at Indiana University. Doris was chosen best citizen of I.ionroeville High in the D.A.R. Contest this year. In a competitive examination, she placed first among representatives from the high schools of Allen County and Fort Wayne. We hope that high scholastic ability, application, and interest continue to bring Doris high honors. ' N, Our principal, Mr. George Martin,, has held this position for ll|_ years. Mr. Martin came to Monroeville High School in 1937 as coach. He attended Ball State Teachers College. Besides having a very full schedule as principal, Mr. Martin teaches Biology and Shop. We Seniors feel that we have been very fortunate in having Mr. Martin at the head of our school during our high school years, and appreciate the help he has given us during this time. After the excite¬ ment of enrolling in our classes wore off, we settled down and organized our class. Duane Dager was elected president. ; e held two class parties that year, which were enjoyed by all. That fall a few of the members in our class presented a one-act play at a P. T. A. meeting. The following year we again assembled. We found that we had.lost a few members, but we also gained a few. We elected Marianne Angus president. We had many activities to attend which helped to break the monotony of class work. We took a tour of the State Prison for Criminally Insane at Lima, Ohio. That year the basketball club won the county, sectional and regional. These were the main events of the year. The next year when we entered the junior class, we chose Doris Webster president. This year was highlighted by the junior play, receiving our class rings, and the junior-sen¬ ior banquet. In the fall of f [}_9 we entered the dear, old school for our last year in high school. By this time our class had dwindled to twentyāone. But we have with us three extra members, making a total of twenty-four seniors. Barbara Spieth was elected - president; Rosemary Marquart, vice-pres¬ ident; and Dorothy Smith, secretary-treasurer. We found this year to be the most enjoyable of all. We went on a hay ride for our class party on a rainy and dismal night. We went out to Pepes for the rest of the evening. There we en¬ joyed a chicken supper, and held a square dance, which made up for the weather. In January a group of seniors spent an exciting day in Chicago. Our second semester is filled with activities. We are working constantly on our yearbook. We are planning a spring dance, and we also plan to give our class play sometime in May. We are looking forward to the night of the Junior-Senior banquet, baccalaureate, and finally graduation. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS: Jim Sldell - Secretary Treasurer, Gloria Spieth - President, Stan Robison - Vice President Byron Barkley Pat Bruick Anna Marie Johannas Donald Myers Tom Ruble James Bauserman Joan Case Lynn Bearman Dale Poster Mary Ann Lortie Maurice 0āShaughne s s ey Robert McIntosh Mary Reynolds A Ted Savieo Ruth Salway Peggy Brouwer Jerry Holt Annabelle McMillen Stan Robison James Sidell Robert Webster f } fJL Paul Voirol Gloria Spieth Junior History This year twenty-three peppy juniors, eager to assume the title of upper classmen, strutted to seats in the assembly, ready to take their turn at giving orders to the green fresh- ies. The big day finally came for organizing our class. We elected Jean Spieth, president; Stan Robison, vice-president; Jim Sidell, secretary-treasurer. Miss Edith Hanson was chosen class sponsor. On a cold, rainy night in October, the juniors, along with members of the faculty, spent a wet but enjoyable evening at Lorties ā, playing games and feasting on cider and doughnuts, to say nothing of washing cars and breaking windows. In December we presented āāThe Campbells Are Comingā, a light comedy in three acts. We gave a repeat performance in J anuary. We have charge of the well-known candy room. It is here that most of the students spend their free time and money, (well, their time, anyway.) āA Gypsie Seranadeā has been selected for our junior-sen¬ ior banquet theme. This is undoubtedly the biggest event of the year. Oh, for that wonderful night when that certain guy gets butterflies in his stomach when he sees his date in her new formal J In November we ordered our class rings. What a day 1 It was very hard to make a choice. Finally we all agreed, and everyone was satisfied with the decision. On the arrival of the rings, in February, the juniors were the object of every¬ oneās attention. The juniors have great basketball talent. Jim Bauserman, Stan Robison, Lynn Bearman, Bob Webster, and Don Myers make up five of the first ten members of the basketball club. Dale Foster and Annabelle McMillan, our capable cheer leaders, are members of the junior class. Having plenty of get up and go, the juniors will make ef¬ ficient seniors in ā5 1. In the Ninteen-Portyeight year. Youād have thought that Old St. Patrick Himself, in full glory, was here. We soon settled down and studies, And got right.down to biz,ā For we couldnāt fool with our teachers When they began to quiz. We had no time to be foolish. Though our grades were not so high But just the same when the term was over. The whole bunch of us got by. When we started out as sophomores. It wasnāt quite so much fun; Right then and there we found out That our work had just begun. We pulled together, worked late at night. Of grades we got the best; And at the end of the year, as before. Again all passed the test. Next year again weāll assemble All together once more. And weāll try our best with might and main To reach the other shore. ā FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS: Roxy Ruble President, Loren Grabner - Secretary and Treasurer. CUBS ENJOY A GOOD SEASON Under the leadership of a new coach, the Monroeville Cubs took to the floor and soundly whipped the Hoagland Wildcats for their first victory of the year. This victory aroused much interest and enthusiasm in the fans as well as the players The pace was slowed somewhat by the sickness of two of our key players. Despite this handicap, the Cubs did extremely well. About County Tournament time, with all the players back in the line-up, the Cubs hit their peak. By defeating three county teams, two of them being pre-tourney favorites, the Cubs won their position in the finals of the tourney, but the roar of the Leo Lions was too much for the Cubs to handle. Not being discouraged by defeat, the Cubs eyed the Sec¬ tional crown. The Cubs, hoping for a good draw in the sec¬ tional, drew Hoagland. Monroeville, going into the first game of the tournament, found Hoagland playing well over their heads. Lady Luck being with Hoagland, and not Mon¬ roeville, trounced the Cubs in a thrilling overtime. Thus the book closes for another year on the Chronicle of the Cubs. . , - .
