.... 'V ,i-.0 ' It would take too long to read the complete history of this eventful voyage. It would be very interesting to tell the many delightful experiences, the many wonderful lessons, the changes in the passenger list along the way, the partings of this one and the welcoming of anotherg but after all, it has but little vital significance except to ourselves, the twenty who still remain together to land tonight at Commencement Wharf. We must not forget the loyalty due to our class colors fblue and whitel so valiantly flying in the mast- head. The most vital history of any person or thing is never given to the world. So must it be with the class of 1944. VALEDICTORY Friends, Mr. Superintendent, Members of the School Board, Classmates and Faculty, the time has come when we, the graduating class of 1944, must leave you and upon my shoulders has fallen the duty of bidding you farewell. It seems that it was only yesterday that we entered high school feeling so very dignified and grown-up, only to learn that we knew very little about the school work which lay ahead of us. But Father Time has travelled at his usual speed and tonight we are confronted with one of the greatest tasks of our livesg that of going out into the world to make use of the knowledge that we have attained here. Now we can easily see how we could have improved our work and why it was important that we should have done everything that our teachers told us: even though at the time we thought that it was beyond our ability. we wish to express our regrets for idling and playing when we should have been at work but we hope to profit in the future by the mistakes of our past because as it is often said nexperie ce is the best teacher.n Fellow pupils, we hope that our mistakes and experiences will be profitable to you and that you will present yourselves as classes of which Monroe High can justly be proud. To attain such a goal each individual must set forth much effort and the class, as a whole, must cooperate. When your chance comes answer it because nopportunity knocks but once.n Members of the faculty, we give to you our deepest gratitude for your help and patience during our troublesome periods. Some of you have been with us through all of our high school days and we have grown to look up to you as our nguiding star.n we realize that the task of teaching us has not been an easy one and that many of us would never have made the grade had it not been for your untiring and ever-increasing effort in guiding us toward the shining goal of graduation. we hope that the teaching of oncoming classes will be less tiring and that in the future when your memory recalls
