B UGLE 192 7 wuth five baskets to hus credut The vuctory was declsuve wuth Monroe on the long end of a 29 6 score In the next game the Monroe team faced the Alumnu composed almost enturely of ex captauns of the Red and Whute However theur long experuence avauled them nothung and they left the gym defeated to the tune of 30 2l Wuth confidence gauned from theur vuctorues over all theur prevuous opponents Monroe entered the Ruver Rouge fray wuth hopes of agaun coppung the bacon Superuor basket tossung and organuzed defense gave Monroe the vuctory wuth a 24 I I score The followung week the locals uourneyed through snow and uce to Burmungham where they contunued theur wunnung streak by decusuvely trouncung theur opponents wuth a score of ZI 9 Monroe then unvaded the terrutory of the strong Wyandotte team The Roosevelt Hugh aggregatuon couldnt seem to fund theur strude even on theur own floor and were defeated wuth a score of 21 7 At Ferndale the followung week the locals started for a rut un whuch they remauned for three weeks Not rated as a powerful team the Ferndale quuntette dusplayed a brand of basketball that surprused Monroe However they managed to keep theur heads above water and emerged wuth a I6 I5 vuctory In the next game Port Huron completed the havoc started at Ferndale Monroe was taken completely off her feet by the fast vusutors and suffered theur furst defeat of the season wuth a score of I8 31 The next team to come to Monroe duplucated thus feat and Mount Clemens the league leaders handed Monroe theur second defeat un two weeks wuth a I4 26 score The locals then journeyed to Royal Oak to see uf they couldnt lose theur Junx by playmg on a strange floor They fought valuantly holdung the Oakland aggregatuon s lead very low but nevertheless were left on the short end of a I4 I3 score Next week playung on theur own floor the Wakeheld coached boys came out of theur rut wuth a snap and regauned theur place near the top un the League by defeatung Ypsulantu Thus vuctory was generally expected but ut worked wonders on the Monroe team whuch was gettung pretty duscouraged wuth three subsequent defeats after such a long strung of vuctorues The score was Monroe 29 Ypsulantu I9 Only one more game remauned after thus The locals entered the next fray wuth renewed pep and swept poor Grosse Pounte off her feet Monroe ran curcles around her opponents and the score at the quarter was 22 2 At the half a substutute lune up was put un and the boys carrued themselves superbly The funal score was 37 I 7 A week later the locals entered the Dustruct Champuonshup Tournament arrayed agaunst theur close ruvals Wyandotte Sunce the Wyandotte Monroe game the Roosevelt Hugh team had been consustently wunnung and the locals had met three defeats In spute of thus Monroe emerged the vuctors However, our chances were shot when we lost to the fast Holy Redeemer team Thus defeat put them out of the semu funals and Monroe funushed her season wuth second place of whuch everyone us very proud The Regular Luneup Substulutes Capt Wulmer Waltz Guard Ray Brancheau Guard Arthur Kuhl Fred Peterson Center Arthur Kutsche Forward Francug Fredengks Edward Mccormuck Forward Elgm Marshall Student Manager Gustav Henruch ' 1 1 ' - 1 1 1 1 ' ' 1 1 . . , . . . , 1 - 1 - 1 1 ' ' 1 1 ' - 1 1 1 1 ' - . . , . .. 1 . . . . , - 1 1 ' ' 1 1 ' 1 . 1 1 . - 1 ' 1 n - 11 1 - ' , .

BUGLE -1927 -o TRACK 1926 Monroe was acclaimed champion rn another major sport at Ypsr leading Ferndale their nearest opponent by 20 point At a practice meet with the Ypsr Normal Reserves Monroe lost to the experienced college team with a score of only 57 64 In a dual meet with Pontiac on Ypsr s track the Waters coached locals again led the field with a total of 75 polnts against Pontiac s 47 Monroe succeeded rn taking fourth place rn the state meet at Lansing comptrng with the largest schools rn Michigan In this meet they won a cup for being runners up rn the relay TRACK I 927 So far this season Monroe has lost one and won one meet In the first meet Monroe was defeatd by the experienced Flint squad but staged a comeback when they won a triangular meet at Ypsl defeating Adrian and Dearborn The next meet scheduled rs and it is hoped that they will take the championship again this year RESERVE BASKETBALL The Reserves furnished very good prelrmrnarres to the varsity games this season Although they were credited with few victories they were never beaten by large scores The games with the Smoky Five Seniors and unlors were especially close Those who played with the Reserve squad were A Kronbach F Smith H Foshag W Greening Denardo H Peterson J Benedict C McGill D Gruber and B Ferris with Wyandotte. Under Coach Waters' direction the track squad is rapidly developing,
