BUGLE - 1927 e COMMERCIAL CLUB lx? For a long tlme the ndea of a Commercial Club had been dxscussed and fmally ln the early part of December l926 the students of the different Commercxal classes met and orgamzed one The purpose of the club IS to promote fellowshlp among the students and also to fl nance any contests that mlght come up durmg the year The offlcers elected were Pres Marlan Elsenmann Vice Pres Allce Stotz and Sec Treas Vercll Snyder An executive commnttee was also elected They were as follows Evelyn Swartz Boyd Tiffany and Gertrude Duffey The best thmg accomphshed by the club was the play A Saturday Morning ln an Offlce Thus play was gxven on November 21 m the audxtorlum of the Hugh School Those m the play were Harvey Delnzer Vlfglnla Starr Evelyn Swartz Boyd Tiffany Carl Hendrxck Steve Petrovxch Norman Mealey Esther Beyer Vlola Daeubler and Bob Bauer The settmg of the play was a busmess offnce on a Saturday mormng The students were glven a very good Idea of the conduct of a busmess schedule Although we have not accomphshed much thus year we expect to do a great deal more next year because the orgamzmg gnves us a good start We also expect to have a much stronger organization V , 4' l 2 ' at , tn t , N M '1

BUGLE - 1927 CHEMISTRY CLUB Thus year the Chemistry Club was organized early to consider more of the lnterestmg aspects of chemlstry outslde the scope of class work Edward McCorm1ck was elected Presldent Ray Brancheau Vnce Presldent and Vercxl Snyder Secretary The subject of chlorine for the treatment of colds was well presented by Ward Gehrken and Howard Bentley After this the club vlslted the water works where they saw lnterestmg appllcatlons of prmclples learned m the classroom The Waterloo Ice plant was next vlslted where the club learned many new and ln terestlng thmgs about the manufacture of artlfrclal :ce The most mterestmg meetmg of the year was the last one when Mr Ernst a glass blower from the Unlversrty of Mlchlgan gave a demonstration We hear that AI Wagner was especially benefxted by this demonstratlon After this meeting the club dlsbanded wlth hopes of an even better one for next year RADIO CLUB radio among the experlmenters of the school Qunte a number Jomed and meetmgs were held every Wednesday night for part of the wmter and sprung The year s program consisted mostly of lectures on the theory of radlo glven by Mr Slsco and several other club members Some work was done ln testing out various cur cults ln recenvmg and transmlttmg sets and comparisons were made between some of the sets made at home and those purchased complete It was generally found that there was very little difference ln efflclency although there was some m appearance In order not to make the club a too technical affalr Mr Slsco gave a party for the club at his home It IS hoped that enough lnterest has been aroused so that an expenmental station can be established m school next year As many of the boys are stlll contmulng wxth the work It IS felt that better results wxll be obtained next year Gus l-lenrlch was elected President Norman Bragg Vlce President and Earl Ballard Secretary Treasurer Mr Slsco was advlser for the club This club was started for the purpose of stimulating some interest in the theory of

BUGLE - 1927 GIRL RESERVES FACULTY TEA The Grrl Reserves gave a tea ln honor of the women members of the Faculty Sep tember 8 Several Get Acqualnted games were enjoyed About thrrty frve were present HALLOWE EN PARTY Wrtches gobllns and fortune tellers gathered rn the Hrgh School Gym Frrday night October 29 when the Grrl Reserves and therr frrends had a Hallowe en Party Com was spent 1n playmg games tellmg ghost stories and dancrng Crder apples and dough nuts were served APRIL FOOLS PARTY Florme Krug the presrdent of the Grrl Reserves delrghtfully entertamed the members at her home wlth an April Fools Party Games muslc stunts and humorous readlngs furnrshed the even1ng's entertarnment Delrcrous refreshments were served by the hostess stalks, jack o'lanterns, and vari-colored balloons transformed the Gym.
