'-- BUGLE - 1927 HISTORY OF THE. SOPHOMORE CLASS The present Sophomore Class began its career in September, I925, with an approxi- mate enrollment of one hundred twenty-nine pupils. The Class Officers for that year were: Ada Belle Rauch, President: Charles Quick, Vice-Presidentg and Hub Ctewinner, Secretary-Treasurer. The first party attended by the Freshmen was a Freshmen-Sophomore Party. It was a notable event for it marked the advent of the Freshmen into society. Held on January 8 its chief decoration ss as a great snowman who semed to have as good a time as any one The party was concluded with refreshments Pat Sayles and Clemens Gruber were the only Freshmen to get a place on the Re en es in Football Hub C-ewmner made the baseball nine during his Freshman year In basket ball Arthur Kutsche won a place on the squad Ada Belle Rauch captain of the girls basket ball team and Margaret Boudrie did splendid work Robert Sawyer then a Freshman won scond place in the Declamatory Contest When the Sophomores came back to school they elected une Gesell President Frank Fish Vice President and Catherine Gesell Secretary Treasurer The Sophomore Party was held on February 9 Because of the proxlmity of Val entlne s Day a decoratne scheme of hearts and cupids was carried out The services of Miss Wood were secured as a fortune teller and she proved to be one of the chief en teitaine s of the exenmg Dancing and refreshments concluded the party In athletics Pat Sayles and Clemens C-ruber both won football letters while Bob Biancheau and Darrel Llndner won places as Reserves Arthur Kutsche won a letter in both basket ball and football Lillian Becker captain of the Sophomore Basket ball team and Martha Clark did excellent work Robert Sawyer now comes into the lime light as a declalmer His speech Liberty or Death by Patrlck Henry could hardly have been better expressed by that great states man himself l-le won the class contest school contest and on that memorable April l he mon the sub district contest Among those competing against him were representa tives from Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti but all went home crushed All Sophomores look toward their Junior year with Joyous expectations and with hope of doing better work Arnold Balk 1 , V .t H - U U - - . .
