B UGLE 192 7 been taught a few of the essentrals of managlng such a craft than they were forced to submit to the Test of Shoe Blackmg and Green Palnt Not a whit daunted they scrub bed and scoured untrl every vestrge of the ordeal had drsappeared and they emerged humbler and wiser They sailed on and on and soon came to the first rocky passage The Cape of Se mesters Although ll required much courage they tackled It with a wrll and for the most part passed lt unscathed After another hard wrstle thus trme with the Sa of Fmals they reached port safely During this voyage which was rather uneventful they had done much to prepare for the next a harder one as they well knew They vowed that on the coming trap they would accomplish deeds of daring that would thrall the world and brmg honor and glory to their crew lt seemed that their short leave expired almost before rt had begun and agam the shlp sailed away this time bearing a more experienced crew Then' hard labor of the former cruise soon made Itself shown Many members dlstlngulshed themselves on the Field of Football a few on the Varsity a great number wrth the Reserves Basketball found them wrlllng to do therr best especially two of unusual courage and skull Brancheau and McCormack ln Baseball these doughty sailors also upheld the honor of the shxp Bodell although an amateur acquitted hlmself more than well with the Cymndshc Team Nor were our honors confined to sports In the freld of Declamatlon Cecil Vollmer was judged as most able to represent the crew and nght well was this accomplrshed Those lncllned toward Music found ample opportunity to exercise their talents with the Orchestra Notwlthstandmg their many other Interests they found time to rarse their scholastic record to almost the hrghest degree possible When the shrp agam reached those places of danger they were approached with more confrdence and danng for by this time the crew had learned the best method of dealing with them good preparation through the entlre year and not a frenzred effort to acquire all knowledge just before the encounter The next voyage of this good ship was much the same as the preceding one only even more successful A larger number of representatives appeared on the football freld and at the end of the season the crew hailed with great Joy the news that therr most able member Brancheau had been chosen as leader of the team for the next year On the basketball floor one of our number proved so expert that he also was chosen leader for the commg year none other than the mlmrtable Bud The Gymnastic Team this year was composed almost entrrely of our crew ancl full well dad they acqurt themselves at the grand toumament Not bemg satrsfled with ath letlc honors McCormick must needs enter the freld of Oratory where he performed ln has usual bnlllant manner On the Debating platform Wilma Kaemleln drd her best for her crew After the most successful journey of nts career the good shrp once more weighed an chor at the Port O' Vacatron Wilma Kaemlem . , ' u v . , , , . o c, . 0 v T , . . v . , . l , . 1 9 v . - n r v 1 o 1 1 0 ' - - - u nv v r v . . -
