Places were found by Coach Hellenberg for the men, both experienced and inexperienced. The triangular meet- Plymouth, Monroe and Ypsilanti competing- was held at Ypsilanti and was the first of the season's meets. Monroe, handi- capped by the loss of three of her best men, lost to Plymouthby one point. A dual meet was held at VVyandotte, and Monroe won this. The state meet was held at Lansing May 29-30. The teams were taken up in autos and were entertained at fraternity houses during their stay there. Monroe sowed some excellent work and gave indication of splendid training. Some of the very best athletes in the state competed in these events and com- petition,is keen. Herkimer carried off two Hrsts-in the discus and the shot. Niedermeier took fourth place in the 440. The last meet and the biggest event of the season was held at Ypsilanti in June when the Southeastern League meet was held. Eight schools com- peted and Monroe won first place, thus becoming for the third time cham- pions and bringing home the cup awarded. Monroe Hi can well be proud of her track men-they have brought much credit to the institution and to the city. The coach is to be congratulated upon turning out such a peppy bunch. ll1l

QISOYS5 Although Monroe did not make a great success of basketball from the standpoint of games won and lost, she certainly did make a good showing considering the class of opponents she was compelled to face. Many of the opposing teams went in for the State tournaments. Monroe had five veterans and these, aided by some of the second string men, made up her team. Injury and ineligibility cut the squad down some- what. Harold XVagner, captain-elect, was declared ineligible at the end of the first semester. The regular line-up included: Capt. Rupp, Rottenbucher, Kaiser, Snyder, Leason, with Dansby, Captain-elect Vllagner, Brancheau, NfValtz and Bunkleman to step in at any time and lcnd their aid. 1925 - ,-,- ----------. - -

'P' -u-n-l- ----n-u--l-- ------Il-ll-I--M -'l-v'- - - - - - - - - - - - - 'f' BASEBALL Monroe had no team in 1923, but when the 1924 season came the coach issued ac call for candidates, and the response was sufficient to 'make it possible to have Monroe represented in baseball in 1924. Due, however, to the green- ness of the material and aided and abetted by the unusually rainy weather, the season was not especially successful so far as winning games was concerned. However, much material was developed for 1925 as the season this year so far shows. The best game was playe dat Birmingham. The locals were defeated by a score of 3 to 2 when in the ninth inning, Birmingham succeeded in putting across the winning run. lt was an exciting and a close game and some excellent work was done by the home boys.
