51591 ' ' ' A ' The Monrovian 1938 UCMJ Class Prophecy It happened one chrlly October evenrng rn the year of 1968 I was srttrng rn front of my fire place daydreamrng of the yesterdays of my childhood days of my school days at Monroe and of my classmates vwonderrng where they were and what they were dolng As I sat gazrng rnto the frre a strange scene came before my eyes I was lookmg at the red and gold rays of a beautrful sunset Suddenly I seemed to be a lrttle chrld agarn srttrng on the back door step of my chrldhood home happrly occupred by my favorlte pastrme of blowrng soap bubbles I blew on my soap prpe but no bubble appeared I blew agarn but strll there was no bubble How drsappornted I was' I blew the thrrd trme and laughed wrth chrldrsh glee for there ascended rnto the arr the most beautrful and rrrrdescerrt bubble I had ever seen It was very large and unusual for what should I see but famt letters wrltten across rt M O N R 0 V I A I couldn t see the rest for at that moment the bubble burst and I found myself alone rn a lrttle crty A I looked about I saw a srgn readrng A Lrttle Street Where Old Frrends Meet ' Whrle I was walkmg down thrs street my attentron was attracted to an old weather beaten gentleman standrng on the corner tryrng to sell somethrng' As I came closer to hrm he seemed to look famrlrar to me Why rts Robert Acton occupred rn hrs lrfes work selllng an All Pur pose rnventron not knowing what rt could be used for but hoprng that those who bought rt knew more about rt than he drd Glancrng down the street I notrced a srgn whrch read Buck Krt Inn My currosrty was aroused so much that I decrded to enter A slrghtly bald headed and portly gentleman wrth a very pleasant countenance met me and I rmmedrately recognrzed hrm as Unger Buckmgham Unger pornted out a tall slender worrred lookmg man and sard D0 you recognrze my partner Lowell Krtson? After a short conversatron wrth them I drscovered that Unger was takmg lrfe easy and lettmg hrs part ner Lowell Krtson spend hrs lrfe worryrng about a way to rncrease therr rncome and to keep up wrth the modern lrfe of thrs lrttle crty After leavrng thrs place I wandered on rn thrs crty admrrrng the modern burldrngs All f the burldrngs were of colored stone and were streamlrned rn desrgn They had large spacrous green lawns around them I saw that I was standrng near the post offrce and I decrded to enter Much to my surprrse I notrced that all the clerks were women and when I asked a clerk concernrng therr orgamzatron she mtroduced me to a very smartly dressed lady who was the post mrstress and for the first trme rn thrrty years I was lookmg rnto the face of Helen Lucas When I spoke of the beauty of the crty and rts burldrngs her face llt up wrth a brrght smrle and she sard The archrtect who planned thrs crty rs the wealthy Byron Rutan who after acqurrrng hrs mrllrons from a lrfe of hard work rs novs lrvrng a secluded lrfe rn that beautrful prnk glass house on the hrll Just north of the crty Helen suggested that I vrsrt the new crty hosprtal assurrng me that rt would be a place of great rnterest She led me to an elevator whrch she qald would take me to the mof where Iwould frnd a taxr arrplane wartrng for me I rmmedrately consented and soon found myself berng assrsted rnto the arrplane by none other than that ba hful Garland Evler all dressed up rn a whrte unrform wrth gold trrmmrngs All at once I saw a large snow whrte burldrng rn the drstance but I had no sooner seen rt than I found myself stepprng out of the arrplane on the roof of thrs burldrng whrch was the hosprtal that Helen had mentroned Garland drrected me to the offrce Upon enterrng I rmmedrately rec og-nrzed the famrlrar features of Mary Catherme Schlotterbeck who was now very slender and tall She stood very strarght and formal wrth a rather stern look on her face but when she recogmzed me she was all smrles She conducted me personally through thrs modern hospital After what 1 'l v ' 9 , . , . .
