FOREWORD Our I960 Monrolog is a pictorial record of a significant year in our school ' s history. Behind these pictures lies the true spirit of Monroe, a spirit growing greater with every achievement. As you read through Monrolog, look deeply into the pictures; you will sense that we have been molded by an impressive heritage. Here are we who, hungry for knowledge and attainment, are striving toward values that are worthy and noble. Monroe is a great part of us all, a part that lives and will always live. Our school not only has opened the way to the future, but also has guided us through the uncertainties of our past. Here we have found inspiration to motivate us onward. Yet, as we benefit from our school we must return to it something of value—our best efforts. In this past year the excellence attained represents our striving to meet this obligation. Look into the pictures in our Monrolog for I960, con¬ sider the rich heritage of our school, the dynamics of its present, and the values it has infused into our characters. 6

MISS MARY A. SHEEHAN The quality of true greatness is rare. Most persons live their entire years without knowing a great man or woman. To be great, one needs to have a profound understanding of and respect for others. We at Monroe know someone . . . who with selfless devotion has led and inspired us, . . . who has shared with us our joys, our per¬ sonal successes, . . . who with genuine concern has given us encouragement whenever we have needed it, . . . who has made us proud of our school and of our being called Monroeites ' . She understands us and respects us. We the Senior Class of I960, to acknowledge the many ways we have benefited from the leader¬ ship of Mary A. Sheehan, dedicate our yearbook to her. Miss Sheehan is retiring as principal of Monroe this year. Our wish for her is that she enjoy many years of retirement, years as happy as those she has made for us at Monroe. 5
