arcufa 11 Under the direction of Miss Eva Wanne- macher, the junior and Senior Choirs pre- sented Way Down South , a musical tribute to Stephen Foster. As we, the senior class, are about to leave for the wide scope of the future, we cannot help but look back at the past, the heritage which prepared us for the future, our five glorious years at Monroe. It is with fond memories that we recall the times we have had here and the friendships we have made. Depicted in this book are the formal and the informal sides of Monroe. From the bright sports events to the gay Senior Prom, to the solemn commencement exercises, all these are parts of our high school career. This MONROLOG is a camera with a time exposure set for the five years at Monroe, from the first uncertain steps as eighth graders to the proud sure steps of seniors. The activities and honors are the film upon which the high school world is portrayed. And so in order to remember the brightness which enlightened this year at Monroe, the class of 1954 proudly presents the MONROLOG as a lasting picturama to be remembered and cher- ished in future years. Dave Greenstone, Pooky White, Izzy Mor genstern, johnny Goldstein hear that they have just won the quarter finals in Charades That Pay.

Happy High-Schoolers are always ready and willing to engage in Parent-Teacher Dis- cussions. Mr. Wallace, Mrs. Ackerman, and judy Ackerman proved that at one of the Com- munity Association Open House programs. Mr.. Hyman Freeman, Monroe Community Association Presi- dent, has led the organization in a banner year. Our sincerest appreciation to you, Mr. Free- man, for the time you have given in this endeavor. Z? dicatian lt is said that youth never sits back to recount all that their parents have done for them. Those who say that are wrong. For we have heeded our parents' worth and as proof of that, we have dedicated this yearbook to them. There are also those who say that there is nothing like a parent. They, too, are wrong. For there are so many things com- parable to a parent. The lighthouse with its strong beacon guiding the boat along a safe passage, steering it away from all the treacheries that might endanger it. The reviewer, who carefully studies a book page by page, checking it for errors. Sculptors molding their images in time-tested hands, keeping them polished and with a vision of perfection. Unfurled Stars and Stripes in- spiring the author of our National Anthem. We must, however, admit that we do not sit back when we think of all that our parents have bestowed upon us. Indeed, we cannot. The guidance and leadership which they exhibit is so active that if we but sat back, we would have learned nothing from them. And so with praise and awed admiration, we, the class of 1954, grate- fully dedicate our Monrolog to our parents.
