Gerta Elsner 64 Gregory Street - Cologne, Germany Cologne- Bicke ndorf A: Kanalstv. 21 72 Charles Dunlavey Rochester, New York Scniars Isn't it a small world . You've all heard that ex- pression before, but it takes someone like Gerta Elsner to prove it. Gerta is a German scholarship stu- dent studying in the United States under the auspices of the American Field Service. Her native home is in Cologne, Germany. We, at Monroe, have been fortunate enough to have Gerta as a member of the student body. Especially proud is the senior class, for Gerta has en- riched it with her knowledge and her friendship. A warm welcome is extended to our neighbor and friend across the ocean. When we look back upon 1954, we will always remember the unity of the wrlld helped by Gerta Elsner. Monroe High played host to the junior Town Meeting of the Air. David Greenstone took the affirmative side of the argument, Is High School a Full Time job? Sally Vln Dyke and Bonnie Lau had the opposing point of view, while jim Northrop took the safe and steady middle road. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS:-First Row, I.. to R.: K. Green, J. Murphy. Second Row: R. Oatman, B. Jenks, B. Lau, T. Davin. Monroe has been very fortunate in having many honors bestowed upon her students. We, of the senior class, are especially fortunate because of the honor which our classmate, Carolyn Merchant, has brought to the school, her class, and herself. Carrie placed eighth in the nation-wide Westinghouse Science Talent Search. She won a four hundred dollar scholarship for her research on the anirmls living in a fresh water pond. Congratulations and lots of luck to one who is sure to become a success in the field of science. 12
