SENIOR CLASS PLAY 3 W' Q' fe V1 f at rf 1' V a Q 4: 4 - 1 i S c r Q DATE BAIT Emily Walker - - Mary Alice Steury Jim Allen Richard Coppess Agnes Walker Pauline Nussbaum Ed Walker - Claren Lehman Mary 'Walker - Gladys Zurcher Johnny Burns - - Kenneth Funk Pat Walker - Vera Inniger Lester Gray - Milton Habegger Anna Gibbons - Bertha Ray Dave Wilson - - Carl Bauman Harley Allen - - - Paul Bradford Harold Smith - - - Robert Roth Oflicer Benson ------ - Robert Beitler Directors ---- - Miss Barbara Sprunger and Miss Harriet Schertz At 8:00 p. m. the lights flickered and the heavy curtain swung open. There sat Mr. Walker, the father of three daughters, reading the evening paper. Squirming restlessly on the sofa was Johnny Burns, waiting for Pat, as usual. Mrs. Walker entered. placing a piece of paper under Johnny's feet. Such was the dramatic opening of Date Bait. On through the play . . . there was fifteen-year-old Emily, braces on her teeth, and wearing dark rimmed glasses. who stayed at home and sighed with envy at the glorious times her sisters, Pat and Mary, had dating Dave Wilson, Johnny Burns, and Harold Smith. Also there was Jim Allen, a next door neighbor, always attempting to restore good politics to town by exposing Assemblyman Gray and his machine, Every time Mr. Allen would call on Mr. Walker to work on a speech, Harley, his son. always tagged along. Emily, worrying about her future in a spinsters' home. proposed to Harley. Harley. pleased to think of a girl liking him, accepted. But then when Lester Gray comes along and asks Emily for a date. Harley is completely forgotten. When Mr. Walker finds out that Lester is Assemblyman Grays son, all the fun lets loose. Lester had just completed a new car, all except for a license plate. In order to make Emily happy. Harley borrows the license plate off of his father's car. Everything went along alright until the motor in Lester's car wouldn't behave right, and they were caught by Officer Benson. When Emily was caught with Assemblyman Gray's son in a car bearing Mr. Allen's license plate, this didn't look too well, but everything was straightened out at the end of the play, and kept the audience in good spirits, Thirty-six
