Paris Saved! Oil in Paris? Invisible dogs? A bottomless pit? All these and more were found in Girandoux's two act comedy The Madwoman of Chaillot. This madwoman, Countess Aurelia (Lisa Hughes) called upon her Parisien companions to rid the world of greed and pestilence. Since no decision could be made without due process of justice, a mock trial was held in Aurelia's cellar; the oil tycoons versus the people of Paris. The final judgement relegated the corporate presidents, prospectors, new reporters, and female pressure groups to the eternal depths of the sewers of Paris. 14
