Left to right, Jerry Stauffacher, George Mauerman, Bob Anderegg, Mr. Simpson and John Drye. 70 ' Monroe's 1954 track squad was a balanced squad and more than held their own this year. Last year they Won the Badger Conference crown and placed first in the Whitewater relays out of 21 schools. They finished second in the Madison West relays out of 26 schools and in the state meet in Madison where 40 schools participated, they finished third. A heavy loss hit the Cheesemakers track squad with the departure 'of such Seniors as Vic Chambers who was the state high hurdle champ for two years and Harold Disch, the state mile champ. Mr. Gay Steensrud was head coach, assis- ted by Mr. Malcolm Smith, while Mr. Fred Simpson was on a year's leave. 'I'he tennis squad had rough sledding last year, losing their four matches by narrow margins. The netters were downed by Edgerton once here and once there and Stoughton followed suit by dropping the boys twice. At the district tournament in Madison, the team was held scoreless. However, with only one member lost through graduation and with lettermen Pete Johnson, Larry Loveland and John Hurlbut back again, this year's, tennis team has good possibilities.
