With Miss O'Brien as our able instructor, we soon learned the technqiues of Homemaking which we will use in later lite. Rucgffllt Forbes, mp., M? :lFcGibbor: A mc' le er ' ' P' ' BASKETBALL When Coach Mitchell issued his call for cage candidates last fall, little did he realize what a successful season his inexperienced team would ring up. Of the power-packed l947-l948 starters, only Forward Ernie Vogler was back. Forward Bob Rieder, Center Bill Hogan, and Guards Allie Stauffacher and Fred Huber had seen considerable action, but a starting role would be new to them. When the task was completed it left the Cheesemakers wit hl8 victories out of 25 attempts. The Mitchellmen lost only three conference games to tie for second place with Wisconsin High in Southern Ten standings. But in order to achieve this record, the Silver Streaks journeyed a long and difficult road. Take for example the Monroe-Richland Center game in which Monroe sunk the winning basket in the last few seconds of an overtime game and the heartbreaker we lost to Reedsburg 39-35 after leading by a small margin throughout the game. ln non-conference play, Monroe crushed New Glarus 62-25, upset Beloit 40-33, toppled Brod- head 49-35, and thumped Lake Geneva 4l -22. Monroe won only one of our three Christmas holiday en- gagements by dropping Sheboygan North 50-33. Ernie Vogler captured the Southern Ten scoring crown with 246 counters. Bill Hogan, Bob Rieder, and Jim Staffon also were listed high up in the scoring standards. ln regional play we edged out Edgerton 44-36, trounced Fort Atkinson 60-40, and topped Stough- ton 43-33. Proceeding to the sectional, Monroe's state hopes were blacked out by Brod'head's upsetting the Streaks, 35-33. ln consolation play-offs, we bowed in a thriller to Beloit 39-38, and concluded a better than expected season. 4 R A 52 'ae In -gf 4 N6 A N , Q' H 75' we s.
