Also, early in the spring of '46 a group of Monroe citizens formed on Adult Executive Committee which was to act as the sponsor of the governing oody of the new Youth Center, During the month of July letters were sent to townspeople asking for dona- tions to the center, and with the help of students a door to door campaign was carried out This money was to be usea to buy necessary furniture and other equipment for the center, Representatives from the Adult Ex- ecutive Committee and permanent corn- efutive Committee and the permanent committee met together during June and July to make out applications, draw up rules, procure equipment, and per- form the necessary duties before the youth took posession on August l. The first three weeks of Auaust found the old Citizens' Bank building a beehive. Scores of students came daily for two weeks helping with the cleaning, painting, and arranging of furniture. After three weeks of scrub- bing, dusting, cleaning, and planning, the center held its first dance in the last week in August. Under temporary directorship the center was officially opened during September, and upon the completion of a fine snack bar, held its grand open- ing on September 20. Early in this month, according to the constitution of the center, four repre- sentatives were cnosen from each class to form the governing body of the or- ganization, the Youth Council, Meeting every first and third Monday they dis- cuss possible improvements, plan par- ties, and carry on all other business connected with the center. The Angle , as the center was chosen to be called by its members, has grown like a young child, and similarly, has a great future. Through the hard work of students, parents and helpful citizens, it has shown itself to be a haven for teen-agers, truly a place that fur- nishes Monroe youth with an environ- ment that is bound to keep good kids good. lu uonns M Scnlllmzer U Schindler D Txmmons J Dye A Dobbs Second R w D Ivey P Green J Davxs L Mueller J Elmer N Beach J Stautfacher N Thorp S Blumer Th1rd Row J Davx-.
