He is a member of the American Education Week and scholar- ship committees. Mr. Pulicicchio teaches metal shop and is a member of the American Education Week and chaperone committees. Drama, Publications Highlight Fine Arts The Fine Arts Department includes classes in art, journal- ism, music, and speech. Each of these classes sponsors addi- tional outside activities for the students. The art department designs the sets for the operetta and plays. Class protects include silk screening, linoleum block printing, and wood and clay sculpture. Monroe's publications include The Monitor and The Doc- trine which are both products of the journalism department. Arts and Letters, Monroe's literary magazine, is published each year by students under the guidance of Mrs. P. B. Johnson, the art instructor. Plays, assemblies, and speech contests comprise the out- side activities of the speech department. FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT. Left to right, Mr. Elsworth Blood, Mrs. Patricia Johnson, Mr. Gerald Penk, and Miss Dorothy Mahood. Mr. Blood teaches band and choir and is a member of the teacher recruitment and scholarship committees. Mrs. Johnson teaches art and is chairman of the awards committee. She is advisor to the Arts and Letters, the art club, and Wavettes. Mr. Penk teaches English 'I'I, photography, and iournalism and is a member of the health and public relations committees. He is ad- visor for The Doctrine and The Monitor. Miss Mahood teaches speech and English I0 and is a member of the alumni and Future Teachers of America committees. She is in charge of assemblies and is ad- visor for Masque and Gavel. V T ' wg . I r N CREATIVITY is one of the most important assets needed in art classes. Included in the art classes offered at Monroe are sculpturing, painting, and drawing. Shown demonstrating one of the techniques learned in Room 310 are Darlene Chalberg and Dick Richardson. ,, , .
