aha igatrint , JJames emanate G758 - 1831i James Monroe the fifth President of the United States, was born at Monrovia on April 28, 1758. During his fifty years of pub- licservice he served as a member of the Virginia Assembly and of the Continental Congress. He served in Congress as a Senator, was a Virginia governor, Minister to France, Great Britain, and Spain. Before becoming President of the United States he served as See- retary of State, and Secretary of War. No man filled the White House with so rich a background of experience as did James Monroe. Few have so completely assured the immortality of themselves as James Monroe did when he gave birth to the Monroe Doctrine. This man was an honest, hard-working. and far sighted pub- lic servant. His accomplishments and attainments during his life resulted in greater popularity with the American people. Monroe College was named after this man in honor of his accomplishments .
