Q1 Q9 The Monroe City High School band, playing under the direction of Morrie J. Schoreter performed at all home basketball games, the annual basketball Tournament, the Senior Play, graduation, and all other home school entertainments as well as for several other non school activities. It also participated in the Quint City Conference Band Festival at Palmyra High School where it play- ed several numbers individually and then took part in the mass band playing finale under the di- rection of Mr. Alfred Bleckschmidt, State Supervisor of Fine Arts. The band is to be commended on its fine performance as it has shown great improvement over last year. As host to the Salt River Activ- ities association band Festival, the group performed in massed band concert by a nu ber of the schools under the baton of Mr. Paul Strub, Band Director of the North East Missouri Teachers Col- lege. The band also gave a solo concert which featured a 'Boggie to Bach' variety of music selected to please the musical palates of all persons attending. The band, faced with the prospect- ing loss of only 3 seniors, Rheyma Burditt, Bass Drummer, Joan Frie- dankg lst Saxophone and Charlotte Crawford, Flutistg ls looking for- ward to next year with great anti- cipation. 37

Championship trophies were brought home from the Quint City conference, the Paris and Shelbina Tournaments and the State Sub Regional at Clarence. A second place Trophy was won by the boys 'B' Team in the Paris Tournament, and the 'A' Team placed first. Third place trophy was won in the Monroe City Invitational Tournament. In the State Regional Tourn- :aing played at Shelbina they again placed r . After winning their first eight games in- cluding the finals of the Paris Tournament the Panthers slumped and played 500 ball, winning 5 and losing 5 up to the Christ- mas vacation. With the coming of the lew Year however turned over a new leaf, winning l8 of their remaining 19 contests being defeated only in the Semi-finals of the State Regional at Shelbina H5 to 39 by the champions to be, University High of Columbia, Missouri.
