All experiences in life occur in their own time and for a definite purpose. As in nature, when flowers bloom in spring and snow falls in winter, in our lives there are times to learn, times to share, and times to be alone. We cannot prevent life from moving ever onward in its natural pat- tern any more than we can control the seasons. High school is one of those times in life. Each year holds new experiences for a special intent. As sophomores, we feel a time of confusion and fright, as we grow out of the fantasy world of childhood and begin to penetrate the real world of the adult. The purpose of this time is to make new friends and to learn to take on greater responsibility. Initial confusion in the sophomore year gradually evolves into greater self-confidence in the junior year. We become more involved in school activities: clubs, special organiza- tions, sports. Magazine sales teach us how to talk to people and handle money. Through the prom we learn to budget, to plan, and to cooperate with one another. During the senior year, we use the friendships, the re- sponsibilities, and the self-confidence we have gained in prev- ious years to prepare for the future. It is an anxious time of planning and an important time of learning about our- selves and our part in the world, yet it is a fun time of enjoying the advantages of being young. Though we have no ideas as to what life holds in store for us after high school, of this we can be sure: We cannot completely control our experiences because Hfor everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven. This book is a lasting record of the times we experience in high school.
