Sacane Student Council The Monongahela Senior High School Student Coun- cil is the student governing body of the school. It is composed of representatives elected by the student body. The objectives of the Student Council are: to pro- vide an opportunity to study problems and recommend solutions that would improve the school life of all the students: to develop the qualities of leadership, humile ity, and responsibility: to develop in the student a growing appreciation of the democratic way of life by participating in democratic action in school: and to promote the spirit of cooperation between students. administration, and faculty, and good fellowship throughout the school. The Student Council is com- STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS Mr. La Frankie, sponsor: Dee Galiffa, treasurer: Adrienne Miltak, secretary: Phil Toretti, vice-president: Arthur Black, president prised of four divisions: the officers, the executive board, the senate, and the representatives. The Student Council working under the guidance of its sponsor, Mr. La Frankie, has benefited the school in many ways. This year in addition to the annual Variety Show and Hay Seed Hoe Down, the Student Council introduced two new projects: a movie program during the lunch period, and a plan to furnish milk for the students who carry their lunches. Suggestion boxes have been placed in the home rooms by the Student Council. The students at M.H.S. owe much to the stu- dent council for providing the school many conveniences and priviliges. The Alpha Rho, Latin II Club, is amember of a nationwide organization of hiqh school Latin students. Their aims are to secure a broad acquaintance with classical civilization. The Spanish Club encourages the speaking of Spanish and familiarizes the members with Spanish club also seeks to encourage friendship between and Spanish-American customs, literature, and art, The Spanish speakinq countries and our own.
