The club colors-red, white, and blue-exemplify sacrifice, purity, and loyalty. This year the membership has increased to seventy-nine, the largest since its organization. The meetings varied from a serious to an entertaining nature. Among the well-chosen speakers were Mr. Kearney and Captain Catherine O'N91l, The latter related many interesting experiences she had as a nurse in the South Pacific. Thanks to the careful ,planning of the devotional committee, a very im.pressive Candlelight Service was presented as the Christmas program. Later came one of the highlights of the year-Date-Night. At other meetings the mem-bers participated in quizzes, singing-festivals, and mu- sical programs. Her work there ineludes the study ol' stage seeneries and settings and advanced lessons in speaking in addition to her regular acting. Action moves at a, fast and furious paee, with Elsbeth, the ten year old who takes the joy out of living for Janie, making a general nuisance of herself throughout the play. It wasn't entirely work, so to speak, because nothing can be work when you you get so much enjoyment out of it as we did from our first puiblishing attempt. Miss Stewart 'kept the wheels going around and, con- fidentially, had as miuch fun as the staff! Each 'had a particular job to do, and saw that it was car- ried out. 'Miss Crane handled the Ibusiness department very efficiently, making sure of all the money angles. Those clever drawings were the result of Violet WVujcik's capable fingers-plus talent and brainwork. A few weeks before the be- ginning of school a squad of thirty boys left for Muskingum where they spent the next Week in football practice. CDidn't you felloWs'?J Practices were held from nine to eleven-thirty in the morning and from two to four-thirty in the afternoon. Blackboard drills were held from six to eight-thirty in the evening. The Cats, with their smallest team in years never once let the fans down 'by lack of action. Scoring in every game except Donora, the Cats showed that their high spirit well made up for their small size. The Cats first showed their fangs to a heavy Clairton team who, although the Cats scored on them finally won. The Cats demonstrated one of the greatest passing offenses in the valley and could probably have scored again if the game hadn't ended. Resuming football competition with VVashington this year, the Cats broke a jinx that has been held over them for many years. With all the traditional rivalry 'between us present, the Cats were beaten by the two year W.P.I.A.L. champions, Donora. However, the unscored upon Dragons were given a good scare when Burkhart on a kickoff return just refused to be stopped, but finally had to give in. A trip to Monessen on Armistice Day ended the team's season and for many their last high school lgame. The mud put a ceiling on the Cats' aerial attack but nevertheless they fought their way through for a touchdown as against two for Monessen. All in all the Cats did a great job and we are prouder of them thin we have been of many a team. They have shown what the fighting spirit of a team can do, and with five letterman return- ing and many new recruits, we think that the fu- ture looks 'bright for the fighting Cats. Sixty-five M P .
