Commander Davis, MONOGAHELA ' s third Com- manding Officer, assumed command on June 15, 1985 at sea north of Bermuda. He is the son of the late Captain David William Davis Jr., USN and Mrs. Mary-Alice Davis Jr., and was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Following graduation from Columbian Prep School in Washington, DC, he entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated and was commissioned an Ensign on June 7, 1967 and was promoted to his present rank in July of 1982. Commander Davis has served at sea as Engineering Officer in USS HARRY HUBBARD (DP 748) and USS DAVIDSON (FF 1045) followed by tours as Com- manding Officer, USS WELCH (PG 93) and Executive Officer, USS TALBOT (FFG 4). Ashore he has been assigned to the Admissions Office, U.S. Naval Academy; as Flag Secretary to Com- mander, Training Command, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; in the Directorate of Naval Warfare on the staff of the Chief of N aval Operations; and on the staff of the Secretary of the Navy as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Legislative Affairs. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College. Commander Davis is married to the former Susan Glen Boies of Pasadena, Maryland. Commander Hewett, son of M. Rozell Hewett and Mrs. Hedwig B. Hewett was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, in September 1948. Following a year at the University of North Carolina, he entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated and was commissioned an Ensign on June 9, 1971. Commander Hewett was frocked to his present rank. Commander Hewett has served at sea as Missile Officer on the USS MACDONOUGH (DLG-8). He served aboard the USS LITTLE ROCK (CG-4) as Fire Control Navigator Officer. Commander Hewett served as the Operation Officer aboard the USS CONE (DD-866) and as Engineering Officer on the USS SA- VANNAH (AOR-4) Ashore he has been assigned to the Guidance Office, U.S. Naval Academy and the Recruiter Officer Pro- gram, NRD Raleigh, North Carolina. Commander Hewett is married to the former Emily Shaw of Sanford, North Carolina. They have two chil- dren, Rebecca and Richard, and presently reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
