SOCIAL COMMISSION Wiggly followed by a very put- out clerk carrying a cumbersome box? This scene preluded Home- coming, the greatest social event of the Fall sea- son. It's Social Commission's duty to ease the bumps of the complex 3-day festival. The 7 girls were part of the sweatshir1:-and- jean clad army encamped in Vogel's garage. The assignment was to build a float to beat those of Pep and M. G. Room Commissions. By night, the haywagon underwent the metamorphophis of chang- ing into a float--an octopus guarding the opponents team and bearing the words Cage the Cards! By day, Social Commission members prepared dance decorations. Through their efforts, Homecoming was a success and the green octopus did win the float competition. Dirty paint brushes, no clean containers, words spelled wrong, tape that won't stick and a sink that won't work are just some of the troubles that Pep Commission met with this year. But the troubles were overlooked in hopes that the girls on the Commission could raise the spirit in M. G. Every Wednesday night from about 4:00 to 5:00 twenty or more girls would put their ideas together and splash them on the long strips of white paper lying in the hallway. Homecoming came and went with Pep Commission's help. Athletes were served doughnuts and milk after a strenuous afternoon or evening of competition. Color Day came twice this year as penants and buttons were sold in an atmosphere of blue and white. This year's Pep Commission attempted to bring the entire student body into the realm of competition that our athletes found themselves in throughout the 1966-67 school year. DLIQTY S The Buehner Family Cathy, Mrs. Buehner, Dusty, Kurt, Mr. Buehner, Chris Dusty, the A. F. S. student who joined MG at the 2nd se- mester, comes from Thailand. Her lst semester was spent in Rockford Ill. and in that time she has learn to speak English very fluently. Dusty had studied English in Bangkok, Thailand, but after arriving in America, the atmosphere of English-speaking people and the necessity has helped her knowledge of English to increase greatly. The most striking difference that Dusty has found between schools is that American schools provide a social as well as academic program for the students. Here there are clubs and athletic activities to join in or observe, and JOIN Dusty did. She's in GAA bowling, the reporting staff of the EAGLE POST, and FBLA, as well as AFS committee. She loves to cheer and finds it interesting as well as exciting to attend regularly. She also enjoys our dances. People have given her a warm welcome and we wish her well.
