OVERNMENT The Student Council, despite past precedence, took more action than usual this year . Tradition- ally it unites the four commissions and the A.F .S. Committee as well as providing a unit to voice student opinion. The success of these commissions and other projects are those of Student Council also. Meetings, presided over by jim Matson, were full of discussion and sparked with laughter. Having out- grown the existing Student Council room, meetings were held almost anywhere . Visitors were welcome but infrequent. The trophy case in the entrance could no longer hold the evidence of MG's glories . The Student Council undertook the project of obtaining another . The Christmas Assembly also came under the directions of the Student Council. The orchestra began the program and introduced the choir which filed in in a candlelight procession. The mens faculty quartet performed a few numbers also. There was even a visit from our own Irish Santa with raucous elves scattering goodies in his wake. Christmas carols sung by the entire student body, concluded the program . Serious discussions concerning school spirit in 1965-66 resulted in the rebirth of the Student Faculty Relations Committee . The committee was designed to promote better understanding between teachers and students. Unfortunately, high hopes faded when rare committee meetings brought only suggestions that exams shouldn't accumulate on the same day in a variety of subjects . SURINDER Do you know, she said, it's six months today. It's fantasticg it seems Ijust arrived. But to us it seems that Surinder Kaur Iessy, Monona C-rove's AFS student from Malaysia, has been here all her life. We felt that she understood us from the begin- ning but was still eager to see more. She has a sharp sensitivity to peoples' ways and wants to learn about ours. She will never accept them without thought, though, and we can only respect her more for this. Her British-English is fluent for she speaks it in her school at home where she is in the Arts stream. She makes tremendous Curries, which, at home they eat twice a day, being of Indian descent. She says that she doesn't mind our food, though. flixtra pounds will attest. Q Now she is thinking of applying to the U. N. We all wish her luck, she seems to be a natural ambassador with a feeling for people and problems. A.F.9
