JIM McINTYRE Cfar leftl Jim Mclntyre, like John Haas, will go down as one of the best big men in the Monmouth College basketball annals. A very strong rebounder, he was a second team pick by the N.J. Basketball Writers for two years. .lim's forte was his ability to do a little better in the big ones, or he fit the popular cliche When the going gets tough, the tough get going. He completed his illustrious career with a grand total of T471 points and 1407 rebounds. The Monmouth College Hawks scored an upset victory over the defending champions of the National Association of Intercolle- giate Athletics Basketball Tournament in the first round of play. The Monmouth Hawks who were in the NAIA national event for the third time in the four year career of the current squad with a 63-59 thriller over Central State Ohio University. The Hawks advanced with surprising ease by .walloping Asheville- Biltmore College of North Carolina, I I5-81. Monmouth went on its best scoring spree of the season to polish off the Bulldogs. The Hawks II5 points was only I7 shy of the all-time NAIA tournament record. Kornegay deftly picked off numerous Asheville passes in one of the best solid all- court performances of his senior year. Jim 'Mclntyre and John Haase combined to give Monmouth an overwhelming rebounding advantage. Defense was a key to this victory, said Coach Bill Boylan. Barone and Sniezak did a great iob on their guards. The team really did a job out there. The Hawks with all this Kansas City steam came tumbling into the hands of Maryland State College.
