RON KORNEGAY lrightj The best way to describe the ability and achievements of Ron Kornegay is to quote a few of the many praises heaped on Ron by a few of the state sports writers. Lloyd Glicken lNewark Star Ledger! said He's lifted the shore school to eminence among the Nation's so-called small college. Elliott Denman lAsbury Park Pressl Ron has helped push Monmouth College basketball to the top rung of national small college competition. His spectacular doings have made West Long Branch an important stop on the intercollegiate circuit, and to sum it all up, Chuck Hassol Paterson Call wrote, Many knowledgeable basketball people call Monmouth's Ron Korne- gay the finest college cager in the Metropolitan Area, he must be rated with all the great shooters developed in New Jersey over the last 20 years. All of the accolades can be backed up by Ron with his impressive statistics, His Monmouth College records include, most Career points scored 2526, most points in one season 733, and most career field goals 1078. He has been voted to the NAIA All-American First Team twice, and voted the M.V.P. award in all five tourneys in which he participated. As a junior he was a member of the U.S. Olympic Tryout Team and in the same season was highest one game scorer in the NAIA finals in Kansas City with 39 points. The N.J. Basketball Writers Assn. voted him an unanimous choice to the first team lCollege Divisionl All State team for four consecutive years. Ron has also received the Long Branch Exchange Club Basketball M.V.P. award in 1967-T968 and 1969. He was chosen to play in the post season North-South game and in the All-New England Tournament. One of the highest honors paid to Ron in his career was being voted to the 1969 All-American second team by the National Assn. of Basketball Coaches of the United States. Four years ago, Ronny came to Monmouth College as a 5'7 145 Ib. boy, he left Monmouth College as a 5'7 745 lb. man, a very big man and we are all richer for it. JOHN BARONE llower rightj John will be the only starter from this year's championship team to be back for the Hawks next season. He has been a starter since his sophomore year and should move into the position of team leader next season. John was chosen to the All-Tournament teams in the Paul Bunyon lBangor, Me.J and N.J. Kewanis Classic tournament. He led the Hawks in free throw percentage with .835 and was voted to the third team by the N.J. Basketball Writers Assn. He has 898 career points and will be remembered as one of Monmouth's finest players. JOHN HAAS lnear rightj John Haas, must be noted as one of the all-time big men in M.C. Basketball history, along with Walt Mischler and Pete Andrews. John has compiled a fine record of accomplishments which include NAIA All-American honorable mention and for three straight years voted to the N.J. first team lColl. Divisionl Basketball Writers Assn. In T967 he set a field goal shooting percentage record with 67.I'Xs. In T968 he broke his own record with a 7l.3fZy aver- age good for second place in the NAIA and third place in NCAA statistics. John scored 1333 Career points and 1407 rebounds, an accomplishment achieved by very few players through the state basketball circles. LOU SNIEZEK lfar rightl Lou will always be remembered as an outstanding defensive artist. He was always assigned to guard the opponents top scorer by Coach Bill Boylan and most always kept his man below his scoring average. Lou has scored 832 career points and has the distinction Of scoring the first basket in the new Alumni Memorial Gym.
