Picture Essay SStaavM pMli X saoiwi! mmi «llf, ' • ■m0 ' - To one who has assumed the leadership, direction, and most of all, the challange of guiding Monmouth College through the perils and peaks of future years, Monmouth must now gratefully recognize President Richard Stine. The raw material, experience, and potential of this college are all available for President Stine to draw upon, to insure the quality and longevity of Monmouth College. Through and because of his leadership, Monmouth ' s future will be rewarding. Dedication 17 Hi, 18 Dedication Dedication The Walkout . . . descending like fury from the gods, the hair filled with bombs of shaving cream, tomatoes, and magic markers. A stampede calmed only by the hypnotism of a dance. 20 First Term First Term 2 1 22 lirst Term The inevitable has finally arrived. It is a gloomy prophecy of the work and tears to come, it is called registration. The trek will now begin. First Term 23 24 First Term Like an oasis in the Monmouth desert, the student union blooms as an eternal blossom in the heart and soul of every wearied student. It is in Azdale ' s plush cantina we take our refuge. First Term 25 26 First Term The advent of football, A rectangular grass field must now withstand the pounding tnouientuni WC ' .i ' i, ' di,; V ' ..fr ' . First Term 27 of two trained and toughened machines, neither of wliich will stop or be stopped . . . the encounter of the unstopable force against the immovable resistance. 2S First Term First Term 29 Turned on, turned up, turned out to yell— like— hell, raw, harsh bursts of sound eventually forgotten in the hypnotic vibrations of a dance. 30 Homecoming Homecoming m-; . 32 Homecoming This inevitable procession of colors, forms, traditions , funny that something as pleasant as a parade, should precede something as savage as a Homecoming football game. Homecoming 33 34 Homecoming The armies have left the field . . a strange type of war this football is. Somehow subject to time periods, their fury is ironically replaced by a tribute to a warm and dedicated woman. Homecoming 35 36 Homecoming Throbs, pulses, that pierce the ears and stab the soul. Psyh reigns supreme, and bodies move, slide, thrust to the mandates of wicked music. Homecoming 37 Jan Freeman, Elizabeth Fenn, Susan Mardjetko, Deborah Drain, Linda Margherio The result of a Homecoming, tangibly made manifest in the crowning of a new queen, and another court of beauties now reigns. Linda Margherio, 1970 Queen Homecoming 39 Parents ' s Weekend brings a host of new faces to the campus, some of these being a college president and a Supreme Court Justice. 40 First Term Autumn air burns and sears the lungs when the breaths are short and deep. None— the— less, the burning will continue until the finish line is crossed, the final goal scored. First Term 41 mm A brilliant production about A Company of Wayward Saints which recognizes and makes manifest the true talent of the men and woman who brought it to life on the antique stage of the Little Theatre. 42 Second Term Second Term 43 44 Third Term Chiistmas is over and gone are those few precious weeks of rest and no deadlines. Once again Monmouth raUies for the long and bumpy journey through a cold second term. It has started again. Third Term 45 46 Third Term It is a hard, polished floor that will host this encounter. All of the agony and triumph will be reflected from its shining surface, a strange mirror duplicating the strains and stretches, the poundings and pushes. This is a scientifically frantic struggle, to drop a melon-sized, brown ball through a steel hoop. Third Term 48 Third Term Three events come to campus within a very short time ; the first two are definitely designed to accentuate the vital importance of the third. They are Greek Week, Winter Week- end, and the Student Senate elections. Let us hope that our Senate officials were not elected in the wake of a spirit of frivolity. A visit by a television personality to Monmouth? Is it possible? An evening with Sebastian Cabot is Hollywood in the auditorium. 50 Third Term Third Term 51 I HH bI P ■JKF B H H H M|ffip ffl| 9 WUlBt M lE H B H ii flH| m H ; 1 1 1 The final production of Crimson Masque is another success. The costumes, grease paint, and stage Hghts will now have a summer ' s rest before they will again construct another production. 52 1711111 Term TTiird Term Take a large group of people, place them in an open space, allow them several hours to prime themselves, and you have an instant Festival of Life. The result is that the large group of people finally get a chance to hang loose and nobody is hurt by it. Times like these are too infrequent. 54 Festival of Life Festival of Life 55 56 Third Term 57 58 Third Term Scot Olympics, the event of the year. It begins with a cultural event, a toast to the fine arts, namely a sing . It is an event so melodious, that it makes the Righteous Brothers sound like Heckle and Jeckle Tliird Term 60 Tliird Term Third Term 61 Then there comes that annual myriad of athletic events, so complex in their nature, so unbelievably difficult to perform. 62 Third Term Third Term S3 that it takes a musical blasting by the Ides of March to finally enable the contestants to regain their composure. All may now return to normal. 64 Third Term Third Term 65 66 ' riiird Term Third Term 67 Graduation, the final event in the coUege career. It is a ceremony full of pageantry and color, a time during wliich each graduate feels the exhUiration of success, and the remorse of leaving friends. It is the start of a new adventure. It is the goal of every college student. Graduation is beginning again, the next steps. 08 Third Term Third Term 69 Administration 70 Departments 71 Dr. Richard Stine President Administration Dr. William B. The Imperial Rulers of Rome are not dead, but live on in a secret hideaway. They gather once a month to pass mag- nificent legislation, create awe inspiring policies, and prepare recom- mendations so truly grandiose, that many inside sources suggest that these immortal statesmen are actually timeless space travel ers from another galaxie, coming here to educate the masses in Interplanetary Communiques . Whoever they might be, let us never forget their true qualities, for never has any one of these Aristotles ever accepted any monetary compensation for their immortal labors. And finally, let no one forget, that it was the Monmouth College Student Senate that single- handedly organized and directed the Gotham City pop bottle drive that subsidized Batman ' s much needed corrective braces. Let all hail their magnificence. Amen. Organizations 159 A S S o c I A T I O N O F TV O M E N First Row, Left to Right: Debbie Peaco, Debby Goudy, Williet Griffin, Kathy Lenhert. So, we would like to thank our staff and the photo lab for the hours spent in creating this book. We hope that it will endure as an idea and a memory of Monmouth College ' 70- ' 71 , for this was the purpose for which it was conceived. We hope too that in future years, the Ravelings will remain with these ideals; as a remembrance of past events, a recollection of something that has past into infinity. K PISCH. PISCHEL YEARBOOKS.
