The days of orientation pass quickly. These days are great ones! They are busy, hurried, strange days. These days are enthusiastic ones. They are filled with making new friends, meeting that mysterious roommate, walking, and oc- casionally even sitting down. The beanies are distributed among the freshmen. We watch as those red and white caps bounce up and down the hills behind Wallace Hall. We watch as the beanies stand up in line. We watch as they protest. We watch as they laugh, and learn, and grow up. The freshmen are, of course, baffled by the episode of registration. They write their names and wonder what it all means. They try so hard to pretend they know what is happening— but so do the upperclassmen. 29

ONE SPECIAL PART OF COLLEGE IS HOMECOMING. The floats have taken many hours to build. They are a combination of hard work, chicken wire, paper, smiles, and sometimes tears. The golden horn, the handkerchief, an ivory smile, jubilant eyes — that ' s how to say Louis Armstrong! The Queen steps from her seat. Her date watches as they announce her title; he seems assured that he has made a good choice. They call it Yell Like Hell! They have fun; they smile at the others; and, when it is their turn, the others will smile at them. 30
