UNNO TICED H PE UPLE An important part of every school day is the upkeep of our building. just take a moment to realize what our halls and rooms would be like if our janitors were not here. Our jani- tors prepare our school for visitors before and after sporting events and musical concerts. Their Work, however, does not stop when they reach the end of the hall. Being the first time for many of the girls to face competition, Mr. McElhaney felt that the girls did a tremendous job. They Worked both together in the relay i competitions and alone in the individual events. The coaches also noted that many of the girls were underclassmen and, therefore, i, could return to the '76 team. Girls track 43 MIKE THOMPSON , REPRESENTS M I A T STA TE MEET Mike Thompson proudly represented Moniteau in the State Track and Field Meet held at Penn State on May 23 and 24, 1975. The su- per sophomore raced in the 100 yard dash trials but failed to quali- fy for the finals. To earn his chance at the State Meet, Thompson was a triple Winner at the District IX Meet at Kane on the preceding Saturday. Mike Won the 100 yard dash in a time of 10. 0 seconds, breaking the Moniteau and the District IX records. He also was victorious in the 220 yard dash in 23. 7 seconds. Along with Pat Rumbaugh, Don Tirnblin, and Mike Warner, Thompson earned a fourth in the 880 yard relay with a team time of l:37.2. When asked how he felt after the meets, Mike replied, I was happy because I broke the record. The dinner-dance was the school's version of the traditional Prom. Miss Parker was crowned by Rick Metz, president of the senior class. Mr. Heller was crowned by the 1974 queen, Kim Stroup. The court was introduced by John Malin- owski, president of the junior class. Mem- bers of the court were Karen Brehm and Vickie Steinheiser, senior attendants, Lisa Bollinger and Darla Heller, junior attend- ants. Derrick Henderson, Greg Burk, Don Timblin, and Joel Ball were the escorts. Table decorations included flowers made by students. Coriolis provided music. The presentation of Nancy and her court came during the annual homecoming assem- bly held during the school day. The senior attendants were Lisa Bollinger and Darla Heller. Underclassmen attendants were Becky Blauser, Norma Ralston, Crystal Heller, and Debbie McKinney. To celebrate this theme, the decorating committee created two 90' X9' murals which depicted an old fashioned holiday. The high point of the evening was the crowning of the co-queens and the presen- tation of their court. Reigning as co-queens were Darla Heller, escorted by Dan Cverly and Beth Yeager, escorted by Wayne Carl- son. First runner-up Bonnie Litzenberg was escorted by Rick Hempfling, and sec- ond runner-up Lisa Bollinger was escorted by Don Timblin. The other members of the court were Kim Morrow, Tina Fowler, Barb McKinney, 'and Bridgett Meals. Each girl was given red roses by Santa Claus, Mr. Benko, and his helper, Nick DiBiase. The band White Grass provided music for the event. Receiving the Fonzie award was sopho- more Don Heller, and the Ioanie award was presented to junior Denise Day. Senior Philip Dallos was presented with a rubber chicken, symbolizing the big- gest nerd. The 50's Day was sponsored by the mass media classes. This year two members of the Moniteau chapter attended the band in Harrisburg. David Kay placed first chair, first trumpet and Mike Noblit placed second chair, second trumpet. ART CLUB ENCOURAGES CREA TIVITY The Art Club was formed to encourage creativity and to become involved in club art projects for the school and for personal development. This year the club partici- pated in several activities during the school year, among them decorating the Home- coming float and judging the Christmas door-decorating contest. Sometimes the Art Club helped other clubs with their pro- jects. Field trips were added to expand the club members' knowledge and art exper- ience. The remainder of the day was spent viewing movies and filmstrips and learning a French folk song. The Spanish Club also attended a demonstration of a Spanish folk dance and the pre- sentation of two songs, Alla En El Rancho Grande and Eres Tu. The members were the team statisticians and students from the dif ferent teams and the cheerleading squads. The major role of the club was to provide jackets for its senior members. One or two of the girls spent each period in the library instead of in a study hall. They took care of the desk by check ing out books and by Writing overdue notices. They also helped other students find books and needed information. When books were returned to the library, these girls had the responsibility of returning each book to its proper place on the shelf. Every year the club has sold candy to earn enough money for an educational trip. The money this year was used to finance a Weekend visit to Washington, D. The fall activity was the annual sale of novelties for Christmas. Monetary prizes were awarded to the four highest salesmen. Before Christmas the club held an auction for the members, at which time all remain- ing items Were sold. With the money earned from this sale, the club Went on a spring tour of business schools and colleges in Pittsburgh. Two or three schools were visited each year so that by the time the seniors were graduated, they had toured four or five leading schools in western Pennsylvania. 41 . Miss DeRubeis strived for relaxation in sports instead of strict competition. Her main objective was to enjoy sports without discrimination. Among the new activities she introduced during her first year were shuffleboard, ping pong, badminton, and tennis. N. , took ona ew aspect of health. Slimnastics replaced the traditional health careers club. The club's pur- ose was to help its members count calories and balance dietary problems. Measurements and eigh-ins were taken weekly for each member. ECOLOGYCZUB FIGHTSPOLLUTION The Ecology Club began its action against environmental problems early in the school year. The club planned to build bird houses and to place them on the state game lands. The club members also hoped to plant trees in place of wasteland. In doing these things, Mr. Heck, advisor of the club, hoped to make students aware of local environmental problems and of how to solve them.
