leaned far out of the window as the train rounded the curve to get '1 glimpse of the place Alas' Once more the merrv playful w1nd lifted the hat from his head and dashed it agaln to the earth Not upon the track d1d it fall this time but beside lt on the right of way Now the tra1n was only traveling at the rate of about thirty five miles an hour Brown sprang up and rushed through the car l1ke a madman At the rear end of the tram he Jumped off To alight from a tram running at the rate of thirty five miles per hour is no easy proposltlon Brown on str1k1ng the earth rolled The seams of h1s coat gave way HIS trousers burst at the knees his wrist wa sprained ln general he was all bunged up But he got h1S hat He could tell by the b1g roll of bllls w1th1n that the money was still lntact With a Slgh and a rather heavy heart he set out to walk the five miles to Centrevllle but we ought to draw the curtain on that long trudge to town on Brown s subsequent actions on the Jokes and Jibes of his com panlons Cto Wh1Ch Mr Brown was very very sllentj until afternoon They were in a rowboat fishlng Lets go down to the mill dam remarked the one who was a camera fiend We can get Just as good trout there as here and the scenery IS much prettler The mill will shut down soon and the water flowing over the dam will make a good picture lo see the movlng sllvery lxquid mass qulckly rlse and flow over the obstruction lb one of the most beautlful and art1st1c V16WS So saylng he picked up the oars and began to pull down stream towards the mill with the fish until the opportunlty came for drawing lt 1lltO the boat But as the trout was belng taken off the hook It flopped over in 1ts struggles knocked the derby of Brown s mto the placldly runn1ng stream Now Brown couldn t svs 1m very well He saw h1s hat quickly float to the edge of the dam and dlve over However he had twice rescued the hat that day so he sprang 1nto the water and went over the dam after lt He went under so far when he h1t the bottom of the 15 foot fall that he thought he never would come to the surface again He had to sw 1m about thlrty yards to overtake it Once agaln he had had a struggle with a per verse fate and come out v1ctor1ous For the hat was still in his ownership 'lhree tlmes 1n the same place IS enough for any man quoted Brown savagely as he Jammed It on h1s head and returned to his companlons who were hurling all kinds of laughable remarks at h1m In a couple of hours he sald Well anyway lt s time to go home It s now 7 30 and we can t get home before 9 on that plug tram By 9 o clock the party had returned to the city V13 the plug Bidding goodnlght to his companlons who were to separate ln diverse dlrectlons Brown boarded a car his hat fixed firmly on his head In a few minutes .1 party of Joual tipsy fellows got on at a downtovxn corner and we1e seated somewhat close to Brown They were at Just the stage of 1ntox1cat1on to become furlously aroused at any little act or become hilarious at any poor Joke.
