The Athletlc ASSOC1at1OH met September 12 1911 and elected the fol love 1ng officers for the ensulng year Pres1dent Jesse Moses VICG Presldent Lloyd Ruggles Secretary Treasurer Fred Woodruff Manager Football Team Professor Callavu ay Captam Football Team Paul Boyer Manager Basketball Feam Jae Hoover Captam Baskeball Team Jesse Moses The officers for the baseball team and the track team were not elected at th1s meetlng W1th1n a few days after the elect1on of officers Laptaln Boyer had all the boys who wlshed to try out for the football team to meet on the campus the followmg Monday evenlng On Monday evenmg there were about twenty live good SIZE bo5s who showed up for the tryout There were only a few of the old players of the last season therefore It took much practlce to get a team ln shape fo1 playlng After practlcmg for two weeks Captaln Boyer thought h1s team capable of playlng a good game So he matched a game Wlth the Neosho Hlgh School team on the latter s grounds and Boyer s team met wlth a defeat by a score of 16 to 3 Thls defeat d1d not dlscourage Boyer because he had so many new men on the team so on the followlng Saturday he let them t1e lnto the Sprlng Held Hlgh School team on Drury s campus and the M H S boys were v1c torlous by a score of 11 to 0 Thls was qulte encouraglng to the home boys After w1nn1ng from such a fast team as Sprlngfield they thought they couldn t be beaten by any team They next locked horns w1th Pelrce Clty on the home grounds and they defeated Pelrce C1ty by a score of 14 to 0 Thls made two stralght games won so they began to thlng they were really football players and they declded to try the Neosho team agaln at home There was a good attendance at the game and everyone present was IH sympathy w1th the home team and at the appolnted t1me they began the game and the crowd began to cheer for the home team The Monett boys klcked off first and they all began play1ng l1ke they meant buslness The game was much more mterestlng than the game at Neosho endlng Wlth a score of 3 to 0 1n favor of the home team Thls was three games won 1n successlon and maklng a good record for the bovs The next game scheduled was wlth Mt Vernon on the home grounds and the boys won agaln by a score of 11 to 0 The boys were gettlng HHXIOUS to play away from home, so Boyer took them to Mt Ver non to see what they could do away from home as they hadn't been out of town for qulte awhlle The weather had been bad and lt was awfully muddy. They had to drlve overland to get to Mt Vernon They left Monett about 8 30 a m and by the t1me they drove 18 m1les they were all worn out, but after restlng for an hour and a half they were able to play a good game.
