Guidance Counselor 61644 .af Y949: Congratulations upon your gradua- tion from high school. The experiences which you have had in school should prepare you for active citizenship in our democracy. Throughout the world it has become precarious to take democ- racy for granted. Remember that even in America, only by active personal participation in the affairs of our na- tion can you safeguard and preserve your liberties. You are now completing twelve years of study and development in our schools under the guidance of your classroom and homeroom teachers. Our interest in you will not cease when you receive your diploma. We shall follow you, by means of letter and questionnaire, wherever you go whether to the workshop or to the col- lege halls. Our office door will always be open to you.

V Principal oi Monessen High School lik? qfukndl: America is great because Optimists of all nations came to our shores. They were people who believed in the future. They broke off old family ties and left old cultures behind. With the plow they broke new soil and left behind furrows which yielded rich harvests and deep thoughts. Our Heritage-the plow, the ship, the locomotive, the plane-symbolizing deep delving, breasting storms, unflag- ging energy, daring initiative. Friends, grasp the torch! Many of the seniors of the Class of '49 will be the leaders of tomorrow and will contribute to the progress of the American Way of Life. May all of you achieve even greater honor and still be numbered with those who will receive additional honor for services rendered in the rebuilding of this world of ours.
