Together we progressed from grade to grade, teacher to teacher, floor to floor. We bonded as a unit, helping classmates with chemistry formulas and English grammar. We developed outside of school through activities, suffered through parental guidance, supervision, and Dad picking us up at the dance. We learned to accept the responsibilities of being 18, choosing a college, and planning a career. 22 Wo ojiXo. u n d e r c I a s s m e n The glory of Friendship is not the outstretched hand9 nor the kindly smile nor the Juniors â Class of 1982 D. I'm Martin Biel. I come from Columbia. The family I come from is quite large with my four sisters, Jazmin, Vera, Mayra, and Grace, and my brother Amin and I. My father's name is Amin, and he is an engineer. My mother's name is Graciela. I graduated from High School in Columbia the 27th of November. After finishing in Mondovi, I plan to study animal science. Lucky for me, America is filled with many of the same activities as Columbia. I like to read, ride horses, run, surf, play baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, tennis and I love soccer. In talking to Brad I have found out that America observes some of the same customs as Columbia. Instead of unlucky Friday the 13th Columbia has their unlucky day on Tuesday the 13th, and Valentines Day is celebrated on September 17 instead of February 14th. Even though Wisconsin is a very cold state, I have enjoyed my stay here in America and would like to return again someday. A special thanks to Brad Quarberg for helping to gel acquainted with Mondovi High School. Martin spends first few weeks in America at Brent and Jolene Lindstromâs. Martin's permanent home with John and Angie Lindstrom. Enjoying Tim with Benjamin. Mondovi High School's New Addition The air lift goes smoothly. Butty is HOME!!! On August 18, 1980, âBuffy,â the new high school mascot, was placed on top of the High School gym lobby. This idea came from community businessmen who expressed their willingness to contribute funds, along with other donations, to purchase âBuffy.â The students of M.H.S. are very proud of their mascot and would like to thank all the citizens of Mondovi for making it possible to display the spirit of Mondovi High School. Special recognition must be given to the coaches, administration and others who have allowed us to grow as individuals because of our athletic experiences. The athletic seasons, which devoured large numbers of our student body, are slowly coming to an end. For the Seniors, the participation and the competition that was such a big part of our lives, will soon be only memories. Looking back, we remember the shin splints, separated shoulders, and sore everything. Standing, L. to R.: Pres. Bob Ulness, Sec. G. Fedie, Treas. R. Negus. Adv. Ms. Parr, Adv. Mr. Parker. It takes a lot of time, patience, and imagination. Maybe you didnât know it, but as you are picking up your yearbook in the spring, the new editors are already starting to put together some ideas for the next yearbook. Let me tell you, when those ideas start popping in your head, they just never quit. Meeting those deadlines can be very nerve-wracking when you have 40 pages to do, no pictures, and Mr. B. harassing you! When the deadlines have been met, a feeling of accomplishment makes you want to start all over again. Of all of the teams in the state meet, Mondovi and Algoma received the most A ratings. Mondovi had 18 out of 23 members obtaining top ratings and was given the William Hienz Memorial trophy for their display of excellence. The excellence that the Mondovi High School forensics squad had achieved throughout the year was the result of very dedicated coaches. Special recognition is given to head coach Mrs. Virginia Everson, along with assistants Mrs. Morey, and Mrs. Pederson. Without them the quality performances of our students would not be possible. As this yearbook goes to press, the forensics season has just begun. Hopefully the long hours spent on speeches, demonstrations, and plays will pay off again this year. The team will participate in meets in Eau Claire, River Falls, Durand, plus subdistricts, districts, state, and the National Forensics meet. M.H.S.
