Through whom as young plants we blossom and flourish Growing with guidance through your perpetual care. For whom, as young blossoms honoring the rain, Rivering your productivity becomes second nature. Carol Buchsteiner 3 I Principal Superintendent Mr. John P. Herpst Schoolboard ROW 1: Mr. Ecke, Mr. Blum, Mr. Giese ROW 2: Mr. Rieck, Mr. Heike, Mr. Morey, Mr. Moy Our modern “credential society” shows a tendency to base occupational opportunity upon diplomas, licenses, and certificates and to use the higher educational system as a screening device to cull rather than cultivate youth according to their educational needs and potential. If this is true, and I believe it is, then every one of you must live by one of President Kennedy’s most famous statements; “Things don’t happen, they are made to happen.” So, if you are really going to find a satisfactory niche in this modern world of today and tomorrow, you must make things happen for you. Mr. W. H. Hehli Today, good citizenship is more important than everbe-, fore, because our country has had to assume the leadership among the free nations of the world. Questions of international policy as well as great national decisions must be the concern of today’s citizens. The future of the United States and the free world hinges on the resources of wisdom we in education develop in our young people of today. Emphasis is placed on how to think” — not What to think.” You are given the opportunity to do group planning and to make group decisions; experience in accepting and carry ingout responsibility at school, in the family and in the community. The strength of a nation involves more than its armaments. It includes citizens who know the meaning of democracy and who are willing to preserve and strengthen it at all costs. Will you be one of these? Toward New Horizons - that is the motto of the Future Homemakers of America, an organization designed to help young girls all over America improve themselves spiritually, morally, physically, and mentally through personal, family, and community living. The Mondovi Chapter of the F. H. A. has fifty members. One way to reach set goals is by working for degrees; Junior, Chapter, and State. The Junior Degree is achieved by filling out a booklet with information about things you have done or improved in your family. Is is also concerned with improving yourself. The Chapter Degree is concerned with work in the family and your own local F. H. A. Chapter. Finally, the State Degree deals with your work in your home, your local chapter and your community to help better and improve them. Goals can also be obtained by participating in bake sales or candy sales, and F.H.A. -functions such as dances, parties, floats, and skits. The Juniors decorated the gymnasium in red, orange, blue, and yellow colors which helped to carry out their oriental theme. Relaxing after dancing to the music of Jack Pingle, the prom participants were served punch by Geisha girls in a colorfully constructed tea house. Mr. Hendrickson administers make-up. 34 Buddha sparkles in oriental atmosphere. This year's slogan was Cut the Cards . Skit day was dominated by the Seniors as their skit placed first and one of their class members, Kay Holden, was crowned queen. An exciting game preceded the well attended dance. COURT Ken Wulff, Mary Cook, Roger Lund, Peg Schultz, King Larry Green, Queen Connie Morey, Lois Weisenbeck, Ed Adams, Mary Martin, Rick Meier ’65 Christmas Ball The date was the seventeenth of December, the place was the MHS gym, and the event was An Old-Fashioned Christmas. The semi-formal dance was sponsored by the Seniors. Couples crowded the floor to dance to the delightful music of Jim Casey and his orchestra. To highlight an evening of enchantment, King Larry Green and Queen Connie Morey reigned over the festivities. Junior Class nn Play i ’ Our Town , by Thornton Wilder, opened its curtains to the public Friday, April 9, 1965, at 8:15 p. m. The three-act play was a satire of the unawareness of humans to the world around them. The fact that Our Town was presented on a bare stage made the play more self-applicable to the individual. The cast went on tour to Eleva Strum Central High School and gave a final presentation before that student body. The setting was a home in suburban London and the plan presented a supposedly typical English family. It was a satire on the drabness of the English middle class, in which people talk to each other at cross purposes, failing to understand, getting nowhere in the matter of communication. Romance is a Racket is a delightful comedy taking place in a lonely, out of the way, Italian inn. Bandits, both real and imaginary, provided much action for the four women and three men thrown unexpectedly into a very unusual situation. An Overpraised Season presented a new look at the teenager or adolescent. It was written to open the eyes of adults towards teenage-parent relations. With gleams in their eyes, the Sophomores eagerly sought out the bedecked Freshmen and had them perform for them. A strange sight it was to see students standing on their heads and fellows walking around with tights and swimming suits. Another big event was our 1965 Homecoming. The Sophomore class placed second in their skit and put Jean Klopp on the Homecoming court. One of the things Sophomores waited for each day was the penetrating odor of formaldehyde which accompanied many of their exciting dissections. H. S. With mixed emotions they received their diplomas on May 27, 1966. Walking out the doors as M. H. S. students for the final time, the seniors reflected on the many memories they had gathered in the past four years.... During the last busy year, the seniors sponsored the annual Snow Ball, presented three one-act plays, and participated in numerous other activities and events, the last being the class trip.......memories which will not fade quickly.
