THE ADMINISTRATION MR. ALLEN OLSON PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE High school students find themselves within the broad classification of individuals often times referred to as adolescents. Adolescence is a period of emancipation; a period when young adults seek and demand the freedoms that go with maturity and adulthood. Much to the dismay of parents, adolescents quite naturally find great satisfaction and security in their own group of friends, however, the need for parental love and approval is still necessary. Often times students can become lost within a group so much so that they take on the characteristics of the group. This is of course what makes parents and teachers feel they have not accomplished their goals. We have observed too many students completely lose themselves within a group, but we have also seen many students find themselves within a group. Group thought and group action in and of itself is not harmful to the individual or to our democratic form of government. Group thought and activities become harmful only when the individuals making up the group allow their moral standards, their attitudes and ideals, to conform to that of the group to the extent that they are no longer individuals within a group, but rather, instruments of the group. As you page through this 1962 annual, be ever thankful for the spiritual, parental, professional, and self guidance that has allowed you to become an interacting part of the group without becoming a victim of the group. Let the individual pictures in this volume always remind us that in the final analysis all people are accountable as individuals, even for what they might have done as a group. SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE Dear Student: A few short years ago, it was thought that a high school education was sufficient to prepare you for your future life's vocation. Since then, times and thinking have changed drastically and it is an absolute necessity to continue your education beyond high school in order to live and prosper in this accelerated space age of today. The astronaut, space exploration and possible inter-pianetory travel have placed emphasis on our educational progress of today. If we are to maintain and hold our position as the top nation in the world, we must continually improve our educational program. It is up to you to take full advantage of the many available educational opportunities that are provided to help you fulfill your duties as a citizen of today’s world. MR. WILLIAM HEHLI
