1950 MIRROR PUBLISHED BY THE STUDENTS OF MONDOVI HIGH SCHOOL Editor-in-Chief David Hiemer Business Manager ................. Dick Tanner Advisor___________________________________ Miss Wirth 1 3n ftlcmomm WALTER FLAKOY April 28, 1934—February 19, 1950 DONNA WEISS December 14, 1936—February 23, 1950 A little while to scatter smiles. Like sunshine on our way, With willing heart and kindly hand, To hope, to watch and pray. A little while to do the work. Our Master's hand hath given Night falls upon our dwelling place. Short space to work for heaven. 2 We, the Seniors of Mondovi High School, dedicate the 1950 Mirror to our Football Team and their able coach, Howard Chick Kolstad. For two straight years these boys and coach have led Mondovi to the top in Football, have fought hard, and won hard. The feeling of friendliness and comradeship, spirit more than anything else, have all worked together to produce a Championship Team and a Championship Coach. Let this be an example to all other schools, and to future teams at Mondovi; all that is attained, be it a football championship or some other endeavor in life, is only done through many weeks and years of hard work, and a true sense of cooperation between the trainer and the pupil. 3 ADMINISTRATION One day in the school year that we all look forward to is Mirror Day . This record of our activities is often referred to, with pleasure, as we grow older. We hope this book does not prove to be an exception to this rule. C. I. The members of the Junior Class during this past year have had many good times together. First, there was the hard work of selling the magazines, then it was the work for Homecoming—the skit, float, etc. We all had fun choosing our class rings early in the Fall and we were all excited when we received them this Spring. Then there was our Junior Class Play, On with the New ' which was a lot of work, but a lot of fun, too. The Junior Prom was our last big event for the year. This event took a lot of work, first in planning, then in decorating. With the close of this year, we, the Junior Class, look forward to our last year at M. H. S. 19 l. Accolo D. Bloom R. Davis E. Surprise was written on the faces of all upperclassmen on September 5, 1949, when the doors of Mondovi High School opened, and more than ninety new Freshmen enrolled for the year 1949-50. We were indeed a large class, and so to run our affairs we chose our officers as follows: Wayne Nelson, president; LeRoy Segerstrom, vice-president; Emmy Cook, Secretary; Beverly M. Eide, treasurer; Allen Christopherson, reporter; and Kathryn Blum-hardt, assistant reporter. Early in the Fall we were thoroughly initiated into the ranks of Mondovi High School students by the Sophomores. For Homecoming we presented a skit and also constructed a float for the parade. Many members of the Freshman Class joined various clubs and participated in several activities open to students. Members of our class have also been well-represented on the Mondovi High School Honor Roll during the past two semesters. 24 Eighth graders at work JUNIOR HIOH The seventh grade enrollment has remained at thirty-three during the past year. Wallace Schlegel left our class, and Jack Neis entered it. Of the forty-one students enrolled in the eighth grode, twenty-seven have been together through the eight years. Donna Weiss is the first one we have lost by death. The Junior High basketball team had the honor of bringing home the Osseo Tournament trophy for 1950. I'EP CLllll Through the year the girls in Pep Club under the leadership of Miss Patterson have worked hard to present interesting and entertaining pep meetings for the students of Mondovi High School. Elected in the fall of the year for one year, the cheer-leaders have as their aim for the year the stirring up of enthusiasm in the student body for various athletic events. They not only do their part at home games but also follow the teams on out-of-town games. Dressed in their colorful blue and white uniforms these girls as well as the rest of the Pep Club members do much in helping the boys win the games. Marge. Nancy. A total of sixty voices formed one of the largest choruses of Mondovi High School History. The chorus presented two concerts, a Christmas Concert on December 15, 1949 and the annual spring concert on April 25, 1950. The chorus also participated in the Music Festival held at Eau Claire on May 5, 1950. The chorus worked on many selections but some of the favorites were Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Morning Now Beckons, Adelita, and Some Enchanted Evening. The chorus meets every day of the week. The chorus wishes to thank their director, Mr. Danielson, for leading them through a successful year of blending their voices into the Mondovi High School Chorus. 44 DEI1ATE DIRECT ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT The Debate Team had one of the most active seasons this year they have had for some time. Under the fine direction of Mr. Tibbetts, the members learned much about our government. Many invitational and contest meets were attended, including the invitational at Eau Claire, one at Tomah, and still another at New Richmond. Blair and Augusta came here, where they were met by our team. There was a good representation on the team,- those on the negative included Bob Bauer, David Hiemer, Janet Tanz, Mildred Medin, Pat Grady, Kate Rohr-scheib, and Anne Goodermote, while the affirmative was taken by Donna May, Milford Parkhurst, Jane Duncanson, Donna Smith, Edith Johnson, Ruth Koepp and Beverly Eide. The team as a whole had a very successful season, learning both how to win and lose. To end the season, a skating party was held at the High School. NEW SHOP On picture: Roger Peterson, Delbert Nelson, Donald Fimreite. This year was the first year that a course in Industrial Arts has been offered in Mondovi High School. Each class consists of about twenty members divided equally into four sections: Woodworking, Mechanical Drawing, Electricity, and Metal Work. In woodworking the members made lamps, coffee tables and various other pieces of furniture. They also learned how to use tools, stains, and paints correctly. The members of the metal area enjoyed the use of a new forge in forming useful objects from steel rods. Mechanical drawing included scale drawings of some of the projects they planned to make in the other areas. Miniature electric motors, buzzers, and telegraph sets were the results of the efforts of the members of the electricity area. This course is instructed by Mr. Harvey Peterson. 53 Bock Row: Miss Wirth, W. Hovey. D. Howord, H. Olson, F. Boigenzohn, B. Bauer. D. Nelson, M. Severson, J. Erickson, S. Lehman, M. Park-hurst, D. Those buying ads got a placard to place in their windows stating that they were advertisers in the 1950 Mirror. They also received name ads in the Mirror itself Editors of the various sections are as follows Editor-in-Chief David Hiemer Business Manager Dick Tanner Administration Editor Milford Porkhurst Senior Editor Pat Grady Lower Classes Editor Arlene Ulberg Sports Editor Jerry Erickson Organizations Editor Lois Weiss 54 Fourth Row! BUFFALO BILL BOARD This year, after a year or more of absence, the Buffalo Bill-Board again made its appearance in the halls of Mondovi High School. Unlike its predecessor, the new Bill-Board is not being printed at the newspaper office, but is being duplicated in the commercial department of the high school. Honor Society took on the job of sponsoring the paper and a large staff signed up to help with the publishing of -the paper. Dick Tanner was elected Editor-in-Chief with Jerry Erickson Associate Editor. Arlene Ulberg is Feature Editor,- Lois Weiss, Society Editor,- and Bob Bauer, Gossip Editor. Every year during tournament time a group of people get busy and put out a combination program and newspaper giving the line-ups, news about the various schools playing in the tournament, and other things of interest to tournament goers. These people form what is known as the Dope Sheet Staff and they put out the annual Dope Sheet. Two or three issues may be put out during a tournament depending on the energy and time these people wish to spend on it. This year two issues were put out during each tournament. BELOW.
