VARSITY BASKETBALL 1ST ROW--F.Brauneck, D.Strayer, L.Olwick, H.Zwyer, M.Durfey. 2ND ROW--N.Heslet-Mgr., J.Barton,E.Kuhn,C.Parker,E.McVicKer, R.Bacom, R.H.VanAusdale-Coach. The 1940-1941 basketball season closed with both squads losing in the first round of the county tourney held in the Maumee High gym. Our teams experienced a discouraging season as far as winning and losing games is concerned, but there were many bright spots to offer encouragement and spirit to carry through the long season under such conditions. The Reserve Squad did a fine piece of work and followed two losing streaks with welL-earned victories. The Varsity functioned best at Weston,Metamora,and Waterville. An over- time game with Haskins and parts of games at Haskins, White- house, and Grand Rapids furnished other accomplishments. Link,Don,Howard,and Ed have completed their high school competition and have done all in their power to keep our school on top and to be the best in sportsmanlike conduct. Football returned to our athletic program in the form of Six-man. Eighteen answered the first call for practice and began the task of learning new fundamentals. The boys, inexperienced at the game, accomplished much in their first season. Costly injuries just as the team was functioning best contributed much to the winning of but one game in seven played.
