Gi ons Q Qi-l w W 1 Coach: Karen Elam The Monache gymnastics team finished its first season of com- petition tied for third place in the league. As a first-year team, they competed at the junior varsity level only. A var- dually on four different events: the floor exercise, balance beam, uneven parallel bars, and the vault. Her scores on each event are compiled for an all-around score. In league competition, the gymnasts placed second in two meets, third place in one meet, and they finished fourth in the league finals. Stand-outs on the young team were Caren Wong, Kathy Baggarly, Linda Johnson, Karin Blevins, and Teemaree Bussey, all of whom will be returning letterwomen next year. ' Co-captains of the team were Caren Wong and KathyBaggarly. The most-valuable -player award went to Wong, a sophomore, who was the top all -around -scorer on the team. Gi son nv.-cf Cross Countr 'Energy to Spare' The standings were determined from one race, which was the league championship, held at Arvin on November 7. On the Varsity, Tomas Rico was named Most Valuable Runner, Tom Miller Best Team Runner, and Roberto Valmorbida was named Most Improved. The Co-Captains for the varsity squad were jim Rodriguez and Greg Smithpeters. Tomas Rico also was an Al1 League Runner, placing fifth out of 41 runners. For the frosh-soph, Tom Miller finished first, Heron Guzman second and Chuck Gibson finished fourth. A11 three were All-League. Coach: Rick VaFeades

Another Monache First The Girls' Varsity Volley- ball team saw it's best performance since it's start in 1973. The Var- sity team produced many firsts for Monache: The first team to win league, the first team to go un- defeated in league, and the first team to partici- pate in the Valley Play- offs. Named to the EYL All- League team were sen- iors Kathy Patton and Susan Kerr, honorable mention Went to senior Trudy Givens, and to juniors Blanche Rodriguez and Rose Rodriguez. The season record of 13-2 ranked Monache among the best. Out of 59 participating schools they finished in the top 7, with their only losses to Reed- ley, which took first in Valley, and to San Joaquin Memorial, which took second in Valley. - I f .. , 1 .-A ., ,,gl'I,:ss.,...
