Reader, who was a teacher in Monaca High School for thirty-five years. Mr. Reader will always be remembered by those who knew him as having been a man of the finest Christian character, a firm but kind teacher who had the respect of everyone. Mr. Reader was interested in all school activities, but perhaps his chief interest was the Hi-Y Club. In 1927 he had organized the Monaca Hi-Y Club, and through the years he remained its sponsor. He was also a member of the faculty advisory group assisting the sponsor of the local chapter of the National Honorary Society. Early in his teaching career Mr. Reader was physical education instructor in the high school, and he remained keenly interested in the athletic program of the school. In losing Mr. Reader, we know we have lost a loyal friend. We extend our sympathy to his family and to all who knew him. Break, break, break On thy cold gray stones, O Sea. And I would that my tongue could utter The thoughts that arise in me. O, well for the fisherman's boy That he shouts with his sister at play! O, well for the sailor lad, That he sings in his boat on the bay! And the stately ships go on To their haven under the hill; But O for the touch of a vanish'd hand, And the sound of a voice that is still! Break, break, break, At the foot of thy crags, O Sea! But the tender grace of a day that is dead Will never come back to me. 4 Mr. Reader 5 6 Monaca School Board The School Board members were: Mr. Robert Pritchard. Mr. Ralph Viola. Dr. William G Figley. Secretary to the Supervising Principal Since Dr. Davies' arrival as Supervising Principal in the Monaca Borough Schools, he has been very fortunate to have Miss Dolores Kovach as his competent secretary. BILL FORSE Coach Bonomi built his 1960 squad around nine lettermen. Three of these served as tri- captains: Corky Robertson, Dave McDonald, and Phil Galino. Ed Benko, end; Tom Zupsic, guard; and Dave McDonald, tackle, made the Section 8 All-Star Team this year. Many of Corkyfs passes were caught by our ends Bill Forse. Jan Harr and Ed Benko. Francis Fabi centered the ball for all the plays. Our two tackles. Moose McDonald and Frank Jagerski, were reliable players. Phil Galino and Tom Zupsic did a capable job at guard positions. Basketball Coaches Our basketball team has had a splendid season under the expert leadership of Otto Pritchard and John Zigerelli. Although our ex- hibition season was not promising, we finished third in the league games. The coaches are looking forward to an even better season next year, since four of our starting players are juniors. The highlight of the season was our victory over the then undefeated Midland Leopards on January 24, putting them out of first place. Our coaches are especially proud of their star player, Sam Peshut, who scored the highest number of points in section eight. 06 Senior Basketball Players ED BENKO CORKY ROBERTSON BILL FORSE RICH McDOWELL 97 Monaca Won 8 Jr. Varsity Basketball ROW ONE: Gail Davis, Bill Role, Paul Sant Eufemia, Harry Louer.
