Star per- formances were exhibited by B. Nichol, R. DeBacco, J. Kushich, and C, LeDonne. The mighty Red Men gained a total of 257 yards against their opponents and scored seven touchdowns to go on to defeat them by a final score of 47 to 6. Rochester: Again, on the 23rd of September, the spirited braves were out to scalp the Rochy Rams. The Monaco fans witnessed their boys successfully defeat the Rams, by a score of 31 to 7. The mighty line of Monaco was just too much for the romping Rams. lt was on this night that a lineman's dream came true. John Antoline, a brawny tackle, suc- ceeded in securing a fumbled ball and gal- lantly galloped into the end zone. Yes, the Brunomen were victorious orally, but this win marked the beginning of a long losing streak. Many Indians were injured and were pre- vented from participation in many of the contests that followed. Coraopolis: September 27 marked the beginning of a heart breaking role for the Red Men, They were lacking the services of a majority of the starting ll, but gave the men from Cory a rough and tumble game all the way to the final gun. Midland: Although the Leopards of Midland were out of the W.P.l.A,L. running, still their Grid lron Classic with Monaco will be remem- bered long in the hearts and minds of Mo- naco fans. Coming into this contest Monaco was still under par. Midland received many breaks in the contest and readily capitalized on all of them. Monaco played a losing bat- tle in the fourth quarter, when the Leopards recovered and intercepted three Monaco passes and scored on all three. Hopewell: This year, it was a first in the history of Hopewell High, that a Monaco High Grid lron Team was to meet defeat to the Vikings. The final score of l4-7, in the hearts and minds of these men, was nothing to be ashamed of and the only thing that was hurt was pride. Beaver: Once again on the lst of November, the Monacatootha Red Men hit the Grid Iron to challenge the Beaver Bobcats. They en- tered this contest with only a few defeats be- hind them and now had planned to cope with these opponents and subdue them with as little effort as possible. They were still suf- fering from the preceding game injuries, but entered with a new spark of spirit and vi- tality. The event was a masterpiece of Grid Iron tactics from both teams. ln the closing minutes, the Beaver team capitalized on a break which proved a heart breaking score of 7-O and once again the spirited Braves went down in defeat. New Brighton: Finally on November 8th, the long string of defeats and heart breaks were over for the mighty Indians. For on that cold, foggy night, the Warriors met the Lions of Brighton on their own ground and brilliantly defeated them by a surprising score of 18-O. This truly was an upset for the Lions were the contenders for the title of Midwestern Con- ference Champions and the Red Men put an end to their hopes and dreams. The Indians were certainly a tribute to the community of Monaco. Was Ron stumped or was he stomped? 1 ' w Q f X, 1 S3 Y X ', x I 'X f if x x n. Lx. 4 H W ,yi :,,,. 'lj 1 W '. 1 . Needless to say, these people spend much time and energy in this undertaking. We, the editors, would like to give our sincerest thanks to these people who have done so much to make the 1959 Acanom a truly great publication. We cannot close this Acanom without giving our deepest thanks to Miss Smith for the endless assistance she has contributed in the preparation of this yearbook. With- out her, this yearbook would have been a publication minus the humor and originality which has been dominant in the past Aca- noms. For their kindest co-operation, we must also give special thanks to the administra- tion, the faculty, the student body, Graule Studios, S. K.
