' on to victory, Always enthusiastic and boisterous, the show their support for the team. lt doesn't matter if we win or lose, they're OUR TEAM and we show it - with our cheers and shouts - by our presence. Alright! First Juniors against Seniors. Then the winners against the Sophomoresf' Hundreds of kids pour down from their seats and grab hold of the rope in the tug-of-war. Spirit! Spring Week of Madness unites the school in a mad scramble of spirit. Hall decorations, the swing-a-thon, and the water events are all part of the vivacity that emerges in the spring with the sunshine. Spirit bubbles over in the fresh air. lmpulsiveness is the key to spirit during Spring Week. How else could there be someone swinging at 4:30 in the morning? How else could there be canoes Spuut lets Hean lt. upside-down in a freezing lake? Spirit brings Spring Week of Madness to life, Liveliness isn't the only sign of spirit. The people who make up our student council and attend class meetings are showing school spirit- only in a quieter, more beneficial way to the school. The meetings, discussions, and decisions are a part of the picture of spirit. These organizations deal with the dilemmas that arise during school. Thethought and planning which goes into any questions that come up are an understandingtype of spirit shown forthe school. The dictionary defines spirit as enthusiastic loyalty. To the people who say this loyalty doesn't exist and complain of a lack of interest in the school, we need only say, Open your eyes and look around - for spirit is alive and affecting more people everyday.

This statement and many similar to it have been heard more and more frequently around school. Some people have accepted this as the truth without looking behind the words at the people who speak them. ln most cases, the people are speaking of themselves and their own apathy toward the school. There have always been people like that and there always will be. However, we shouldn't let these pessimists color the real picture. And now, introducingthe starting line-up for Mona Shores. A roar arises from the packed bleachers and drowns out the announcer. Spirit! Throughout the football and basketball seasons, students tu rn out to cheer their teams.
