CHANGE Change is an everpresent part of any society if that society is going to prosper or even survive. To remain locked in time, unchanging, is to stag- nate and to die. Any period of time usually will foster change, but it would appear the '70's is the now time for the schools of Momence as well as the community. Even before a person enters the city proper, one can see changes. Pre- viously the banks of the Kankakee River were overgrown by bushes and trees to say nothing of the litter that not only covered the banks but also floated downstream. Even though not yet hospital clean, the appearance of the river has improved because of the removal of the undergrowth and the litter. In the downtown area the burst of remodeled store fronts and the open- ing of new business firms and the expansion of existing ones bears proof that Momence is on the move. Momence High School has been innovative, also. The adoption of the new schedule has meant changes and improvement for students and teachers alike. Elimination of study halls, long a thorn in everyone's side, is among the more noticeable. Longer class periods and the emergence of many new semester courses are also definitely positive steps. Alternatives for the stu- dents have also been provided by the Co-Op Program and the Area Career Center. There have been many changes also in school-related activities. The production of films and the increased athletic prowess of the basket ball teams are both big steps. It would be foolish to say there are still not other things that will need revamping; however, the move is on. Progress, the lifeblood of a society, continues in Momence.
