FOREWORD The 1969 Monesse is an amorphous 'organ created by the chaos of the staffs conflicting super egos. The contents of a yearbook ought to be a free flowing journalistic commentary rather , than a collection of statistics. Instead of trying to j freeze on paper the same things every year, the 1 idea is to capture a living, breathing thing with offshoots and eccentricities. Significance is rela- tive: people will save this book for the rest of their lives, baby. IN MEMORIAM Roy David Hess Donk Trudeau Howard Sharkey Max Lowe CONTENTS  ⢠A ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY SENIORS 4 - 8 AND CLASSES ACTIVITIES 9-48 49 - 58 SPORTS 59 - 70 ORGANIZATIONS AND ADVERTISING 71 - 104 Special photos by KEN RASMUSSEN WILLIS BUCHHOLZ We, the staff of the 1969 Monesse, have decided to dedicate this year- book to Mr. Willis Buchholz. Mr. Buchholz has been on the staff of this high school for the past seven years and has given much time and effort to the students. He has been a sponsor of various school clubs including National Honor Society and Camera Club besides teaching civics, economics, and world geography. MR. āBā 3 A MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1969 - U Eggleston LAWRENCE P. EGGLESTON PRINCIPAL T. H. BARTHOLOMEW, SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS In this time of demonstration, dissent, unrest, and un- certainty, a moment of sober reflection is in order for the class of '69. In one sense tnere is not difference between this class and those which preceded it. Its members will scatter far and wide and will pursue a wide variety of occupations and endeavors. In another sense, however, there is a very real difference between the class of '69 and its predecessors. That difference is the world itself - its mood, its attitudes, its turmoil, all of which have changed radically in recent years. After reflecting upon this world, seniors, which you are now entering, my message is brief, sober, and to the point. Reflect long and seriously upon the challenges you face because they are as great or greater, as those ever faced by any class. What are these challenges? The needs to promote compassion, understanding, knowledge, and concern for our fellow man. These are the challenges. May you be equal to them and meet them with courage. 4 Due to certain circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to obtain a picture of the Board of Education. HARRY HUNTE Harry has come a long way in his basketball career. He is one of the finest free throw shooters the Red- skins have. CLAUDE HARMON Claude is the man that gave every- thing he had. Claude, center for the Redskins, ended the season with a total of 343-points. The fine shooter had an average of 17 points per game. Claude was truly a fine captain and marksman. 66 STEVE DENNISON Steve was a good man under the boards. In his many attempts to gain the ball for the Redskins he was often penalized with a foul. SCOTT PRESTON Over and over Scott came off the bench to help the game along. Scott, a guard, never gave up fighting for the Redskins. Scott averaged seven points per game. ROBIN ANSTROM Robin is the only junior on the starting line-up. He is known for his finesse in dribbling and his fine footwork. Robin averages 7 points per game. He has the makings of an outstanding basketball player next year. BILL GRAVES Bill always gave the team an extra punch. He has an average of 12 points per game. Always composed, Bill added greatly to the Redskins squad of determined players. 67 Due to lack of space we were not able to include individual pictures of every team member. The main purpose of the Student Relations Council, organized last spring, is to promote better student relations. This council meets whenever the students feel there is a need to discuss some subject of con- troversy. This year Mr. Eggleston has led an inter- esting informal discussion concerning major issues brought up by council members such as having Afro- American history brought to our school and having buses available to the students living in rural areas for transportation to school activities. S. R. C. also sponsors movies during the year that comment on social problems. STUDENT RELATIONS COUNCIL JUNIOR - SENIOR FRESHMAN - SOPHOMORE 76 Future Teachers of America, one of the largest organizations of the school, promotes interest in teaching among students at Momence High School. The big event of the year for F. T.A. members is the Student Teaching Day which is held in the spring. F. T.
