THE ROAD GOODBYE The road I took was named Goodbye The path looked strange. I wondered why It left familiar things behind. A hand caught mine — I paid no mind. The stranger never once did say Just what had brought him on my way. On we went, and some afraid I wished I hadn’t come, but stayed. All the friends that I once knew Took a road named Goodbye too. There were no two roads just the same Though all were called Goodbye by name. The road went on; we went on too, And I was sad, for then I knew That never could I be the same Having walked down Goodbye Land. And though I couldn’t understand We walked together hand in hand. We said no words, but just walked on, I thought of things now past and gone. I thought of games I’d lost and won, I thought of all the things I’d done, I thought of those I loved and cared, Of times we’d had, of things we’d shared. I thought of those I’d come to know. Just knowing them — they’d helped me so. I thought of things, of tears I’d shed — Those same things now brought smiles instead. The tasks I’d done, those left to do, I wondered how I’d make it through When something inside seems to say, “The best you can from day to day.” The way was rough; I knew the score, It never ends — there’s always more. But now I know that all in all Each thing in its own place will fall. I thought of all the happy days, The sad ones now just seemed a haze, And in a flash I came to see How much the past had meant to me. We walked along — I wondered where The future led and what was there. The past still echoed from behind I was its, and it was mine. But in my heart was still a fear, And in my eye a shining tear; Yet on my face there was a smile, And we walked forward all the while. I walked along the road Goodbye. I looked back once — I heaved a sigh. Then I remembered at my side — My silent, but my constant guide. The stranger’s hand I felt in mine. I looked into his face this time. I asked his name — he turned just so, He smiled and said, “I’m called Hello.” 10 LARRY ALLEN Spanish Club 1, 2; Student Council 3, 4; Junior Class Play 3. That’s her . . . the one with the black hat! Oh, so you’re one of them too! Now, when I was a girl . . . That’s the straight poop, baby! 66 Just one more drop should do it. Under the guidance of Coach Jack Cherry the Momence Redskins had a near even foot- ball season with a record of five losses, three wins, and one tie. A better season was expect- ed, but due to injuries of several players the team was handicapped both physically and spiritually. The ’Skins still placed second in the Kankakee Valley Conference however. The highlight of the 1966 season was the overwhelming 53 to 7 victory over the St. Anne Cardinals. Awards presented to outstanding players at the football banquet were as follows: Best Sportsman — Tom Sharkey Best Team Man — Bob McMillen Most Valuable Player — Mark Schenk Elected to the KVC All Conference Football Team were Mark Schenk and Larry Wilms. Co-captains for this season were Tom Sharkey and Butch Kurth. 6 Momence 4 Momence 7 Momence 7 Momence Gibson City Westville McNamara Central Morris yf Momence ’ Momence Momence Momence Crete-Monee Munster Herscher St. Anne Momence 68 VARSITY FOOTBALL FIRST ROW: G. Returning sen- ior starters were All-conference center Steve Johnson, All-conference forward Mark Schenk, All- conference second team forward Terry Peerbolte, and Butch Kurth. Returning junior starters were Ed Lee and Jon Bowers. Receiving strong bench support from several juniors and sophomores the 1966-67 Redskins were one of the most experienced teams in Momence history. In one of the outstanding games of the season the Redskins upset a taller, stronger Harrison Tech team, 81-80. It was only through' their 150% effort that such a victory was possible. In their final home game of the season, the Redskins defeated a strong Bishop-McNamara team to clench sole possession of 2nd place in the KVC living up to the expectations of many.
