It is the twenty-seventh Year Book that has been published by the high school students from Momence and the surrounding community. We hope that you will enjoy this little volume. Preparing material for a Year Book is interesting but also very trying, and you will readil y agree that it is improssible to produce a volume that will meet with the approval of all parties concerned. Furthermore, our finances are limited, and we cannot produce a book containing the latest of etchings and engravings. However, we have tried to produce as good a Year Book as our limited resources would permit. THE MONESSE 1928 is a record of the year’s events. No individual or organization has been mentioned or omitted in a spirit of malice or sipite. On these pages we have tried to por¬ tray the M. C. H. S. spirit. They are all supposed to be very wise, But, sometimes we think them otherwise Nevertheless, they’ve 1 come to teach us Though oft it would take many a ladder to reach us. Coming from sublime to the ridiculous, Mr. Liljedahl with electricity can tickle us. We sa re sure he is an excellent provider For even does he save the poor little spider. And as for band, he is a trump, To beat him we’d be up a stump. Mr. Rungerford, the farmer’s friend Now will find happiness without end, May he with his crops have luck For to feed a little mouth needs pluck. And we hope his Ford runs with good cheer To saye expense for another year. Our Colonial fathers with one breath Shouted, “Give me liberty or £ ive men death ’ But with us Liberty is a name, In Manual Arts he won his fame. With hammers and saws pegfc and pins There is no liberty when the glue creeps in. A Marcus we have though you may not know That our coach at one time was christened so. He’s thorough in work, careful in thought. Yes, exacting in all thinfgs he has wrought. For him can we only make one plea, That a lady will come who he can see. We ask Miss Coontz very confidentially, “Will we become as wise as you eventually? ’ “Yes!” She will slyly say and whisper, “Be what you are, and to nature be a sister. Learn to understand God and man, Then sit down and think all you can.” “I surpass the teachers—in height. 1 ”—Harold Cromwell The Monease Page No. 13 Of Miss Palmer i}t can safely be said All the History books are in her head, And when in basketball she shows her strength We know at center she can prove her length. May shei forever tramp the mountains, And drink of all youth ' s pleasant fountains. Miss Mauritzson herself must confess Peroxide for her has been a success. May she teach her French class as slow Ass he trips on the light fantastic toe. And we hope her body remains sound As onward she struggles to loose her pounds. Yes- From our own home town,, Comes the mathemetician, Miss Brown, She has found it a greajt pleasure To teach Geometry by accurate measure. And when warm summer comes May it aid to Moore Brown sums. A Miss Stone we have but not a Miss Rock, She lices the beef steak and darns the sock. She lives on a diet, a wholesome fare, And all day long she. has hardly a care. She will certainly do her part To fill some good man ' s heart. Miss Westfall teaches not to bake, But with quick fingers letters to make. We hope her students give her their best Even though they oft’ times take a rest And in her class we know ' tis a task When mistakes need words that do not last. If you have never visited Musical History Then our class to you is quite aj mystery, For selections from Miss McNeil Slowly into your soul would steal. When she pours out strains for herself Other composers will be put ou the shelf. “No teacher is equal to mo in height —Holsey Simpson. The Monesse Page No. 14 Many a victim has been led through the hail By Mr. Munson, the father of us all, And should the guilty become insensible They will be guided by The Invincible, Then is when we. wish he would shout, “Those standing will please pass out ' May our teachers keep up their charity work, And we, the heathens, never shirk. We hope, when in May, We ca,n look back and say, “Here ' s where we’ve worked and learned, Our educational struglgles we ' ve earned ’ Esther Mussman “Pains, reading, study are their just pretense, And all they 1 like is spirit, taste and sense. “I love to associate with the intellectually fit ’—Fred Jensen The Monesse Page No. 15 % €[ 1 % I “My eiass-room brings me nearer Heaven,”—Miss Stone Page No. 16 The Monesse RAYMOND MULLADY, President M. The Monesse Tage No. 61 Page No. 62 The Monesse BOOK REVIEW HOW SHEEP RAISING WILL RELIEVE THE, AGRICULTURAL DEPRES¬ SION by Uane Unton., published by Langman, Doree and Company, 1928. This recent volume contains an interesting account of an exper¬ iment whileh the author observed. during a period of nearly a year. In spite of the agricultural depression which prevailed throughout this .section of the? middle west, sheep were placed on this farm, fed, cared for and sold at a substantia ! profit and thereby made the farm a financial asset during this year. The book is not a theoretical caseas- sibn but explains every step of this practical measure. It has all the data tabulated in logical form. Price 75c providing thd purchaser pays cash,. THE LOCATION OF A FARM by Arold Iberty 1 , published by Langman, Loris and Company. The 1 author has made an intensive study of this question He is firmly convinced that every worth while farm must have a suit¬ able location, To all people, contemplating moving to a farm hq reco¬ mends the selection of a farm along 1 a state paved highway. Such a farm can always be reacjhed regardless of weather conditions. The book may have; its shortcomings but it, nevertheless, presents a very sound argument. The price is only 50 cents ini cash or a dozen and one half of eggs in exchange. THE SOUTH SIDE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION by Edgie Ardy and Ita Eber, published by the; Weber Publishing Company. This tittle pamph¬ let is very optimistic in tone. It presents the advantages of the south side in a clear and concise manner. While one of the authors was born and reared on the north side, he firmly believes that the future of Mo«- mc nce depends upon the .south side. He urges all investors to consider the south side carefully. This little ' pamplet may be had for the small sum of 10c, plus postage. MONOPOLIZING THE STREET by O.
