The top 2% earn their ranking through maintaining strong academic records in their high school years, and the fine arts awards are bestowed upon seniors by rhe directors of their field of talent . The DAR is awarded by a reochers nomi- nation, followed by a vote by seniors on rhe top 3 nominees. Brad Beeuwsaerr receives this honor for his dependability, leadership, service, and patriotism. Outstanding Senior is awarded to a sen- ior chosen by straight senior class voting, and Grerchen Gende and Brad Beeuw- saerr are honored for their friendship, personality, sincerity, and school pride. American Legion recipients are nominat- ed by the senior class and then voted on by the faculty. Jennifer Schnell and Steve Dannenfeldr are congratulated for their honor, courage, scholarship, leadership, and service. The Merit Shield is given ro a person of the most value to the school for four years in service, leadership and charac- ter Jennifer Schnell receives this as cho- sen by a council of teachers in touch with extracurricular activities. 23
