Gridders no. one Evans All-Stater The annual football awards banquet officially ended the 1971 season with the Maroons the undisputed Quad-City Metro Champs. The squad won both the East Moline and Rock Island game trophies, a distinction which had eluded three previous Moline football teams. Quarterback Randy Peterson, who led the Maroons to a 6-2-1 season, and fullback Paul Hingtgen were voted by their teammates as this year ' s most valuable players. Hingtgen, the leading rusher with an average of 6.8 yards per carry, was also named best offensive back, while Dick Clinard was tabbed best offensive lineman. Juniors Bob Stevens and Mark DeBaene were elected co-captains for the 1972 season. Select- ed as the best defensive back was Tim Trevor, a co-captain this year, and All-State tackle Steve Evans was honored as the best defensive lineman.
