Paul Hingtgen gains added yardage after he is stopped by a host of Galesberg players. His second effort makes him the-number four rusher in the Metro Confer- ence. 3. The brains behind the Metro Champs, Bob Brooks, Head Coach Harley Rollinger, Herman Miskowicz, and Ken Bunte, admire the trophies the Maroons have cap- tured. Gridders no. one Evans All-Stater The annual football awards banquet officially ended the 1971 season with the Maroons the undisputed Quad-City Metro Champs. The squad won both the East Moline and Rock Island game trophies, a distinction which had eluded three previous Moline football teams. Quarterback Randy Peterson, who led the Maroons to a 6-2-1 season, and fullback Paul Hingtgen were voted by their teammates as this year ' s most valuable players. Hingtgen, the leading rusher with an average of 6.8 yards per carry, was also named best offensive back, while Dick Clinard was tabbed best offensive lineman. Juniors Bob Stevens and Mark DeBaene were elected co-captains for the 1972 season. Select- ed as the best defensive back was Tim Trevor, a co-captain this year, and All-State tackle Steve Evans was honored as the best defensive lineman. The little Maroons plunge into the end zone to cap another long scoring drive against Galesburg. 3. Steve Burleson stops a potential touchdown run and turns it into just a good gain. 4. With two defenders sprawl- ing and the referee ' s arms uplifted. Rich Mathias trots unmolested into the end zone, adding even more to a big Moline score. 30
