WiTh iusT ThirTy minuTes To enjoy lunch, The sTudenTs packed The caTeTeria and overflowed To The benches in The halls and The ever popular sTair sTe-ps during one oT The Tive separaTe lunch periods. Music To munch by, piped over The loud speaker sysTem, was occasionally shaTTered by a booming voice announc- ing coming evenTs or The sound of a Tray spilling iTs conTenTs on The worn Tile Tloors. Through rain or snow, we go, go, go, because sTudenTs lacked suTTicienT gymnasium TaciliTies. The chanT conTinued wiTh occas- ional inTeriecTions oT nexT year . . . , as The MHS'ers Trudged To Turners Hall, The YMCA swimming pool, or The Field House Tor Their gym classes. An enlarged counseling program was inauguraTed This year, wiTh Two counselors Tor each grade level. Disciplinary problems and absences were handled by The respecTive counselors as well as advice and help in planning The TuTure careers OT The sTudenTs. ShiTTs occurred. noT only in lunch periods, buT also in The assembly and lyceum programs. As The 428 members oT The sophomore class alone Tilled The audiTorium, The programs were duplicaTed Tor The junior-senior assembly. WiTh an increased number of college-bound sTudenTs The Trend Toward enrollmenT in college preparaTory courses proporTion- aTely increased. From The sixTeen required and sevenTy-eighT elecTive subiecTs oTTered, schedules oT varied conTenT were Tormed wiTh a Trend Towards English, advanced maThemaTics, and science courses. Early morning silence was broken wiTh The arrival oT sTudenTs in varied excuses Tor TransporTaTion. RoadsTers wiTh duels, cus- Tomized hoTrods, and sleek laTe model cars lenT The Typical Teen- age aTmosphere To MHS. Hey Joe, waiT up! Have you goT your Trig done? Wasn'T ThaT a hard exam yesTerday?
